The work of renovation of the basement of the Town Hall is going on at the present time, and certainly not before it was needed. Practically every joist under the floor was rotten, and many of them were taken out in pieces, many of them so small that they had to be picked up with a shovel. ~ Fgr the first time in many years, the basement will bé in a fit condition to be used by those who are taking part in the various entertainments and proper dressing rooms are being constructed. A particularly good feature is the fact that the back stairs have been rebuilt, and they are now in a safe condition. We hope the day is not far distant when the Town Hall can be enlarged and thoroughly overhauled. Just at this time when money is : "scarce, may not seem to be a good & time for building. Yet, on the other fi band, labor is cheaper, and many of our citizens will need the work more now than at some later period when we feel more prosperous. Passenger Agent, told a story at the Rotary "lub Luncheon yesterday which "took down the house". . An Irish priest had 'preached a sermon on the last] Judgment Day. In flowery language} and glowing terms he pictured how the sea would give up its dead; how the people from every clime and every country, and those: of every would gather before the Judgment Throne. It was a most impressive sermon and greatly worried Pat, who was ane of the congregation. A few days later he met the priest and told the Reverend Father that he had been thinking a lot about the sermor "And what troubled you about it?" was the question.
