I also concur in your re- marks re the efforts of our reeve Mr. Robt. Somerville, in connection with same. However, in justice to all con- cerned, I believe the names of Messrs. Sweetman, Scugog; Stewart McFar- East Whitby, should be coupled with Mr. Somerville's, they have done splendid work in piloting this measure through the council. There is another}, angle to the securing of some, which} you do not appear to realize, namely, that previous to the delegations of municipal council interviewing Hon. Mr. Henry, or before the County Council had moved in the matter, Mr. W. L. Parrish, with myself laid it be- fore Mr. John Stacey, (Ex-Mayor of Oshawa) who at once got in touch with the Minister of Highways, se- cul his valuable co-operation. The Depa t of Highways agreed to make the usual grants of fifty per per cent, the county to assume the balance. The Minister of Highways made a special offer to finance the county's end of the cost for the first year, and further agreed to send his deputy, or qualified assistant to place it before the county council at the June meet- afterwards drawing your attention to above, I} SE mt selfish motive. The game, which was played at the school campus, was witnessed by only a very It was a great hitting spree as far as Port Perry was concerned. Every- body got a hit and nearly everybody was able to convert them into runs. Dowson led the batters with three] runs and four hits and was closely]. | followed by Jerry Williams who hit safely four times but was only able to come home twice. Four other Port batters were able to get two runs apiece. . - Brooklin couldn't seem to connect with the offerings of Sam Naple, the Port Perry twirler, and up to the fifth inning they were restricted to one run. In the fifth Port Perry loosened up & bit and allowed four runs but in the latter part of the game they yielded only one more run. Besides having plenty of action in the batting section of the game there 'was some nice fielding by both sides. Dick Rodd, who plays centre field for Brooklin, made a very nice running catch in the fourth inning.
