He was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in 1850. In 1891 he left Scotland for Canada, accompanied by his wife and nine children. The fam- ily came to Oshawa and the late Mr. Mackie has resided in this district since that time. Eight years ago Mr. and Mrs. Mackie celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding. Mem- bers of the family who survive include three daughters, Mrs. Leon Gibson, of Detroit; Mrs. Chas, Chapin, of Col- borne, and Mrs, O.A. Gerrow, Oshawa, and four sons, George, of Columbus; James, Alex. and Charles, of Oshawa. Peters, of Port Perry, celebrated the 40th anniver- sary of their wedding, on Thursday, November 28th. Mr, Peters was born near Udora, in north York; and in 1889 married Miss Mary Mapes, of 'Toronto, formerly of Richmond Hill. 'Mr. and Mrs. Peters were married in Toronto by the Rev. W. A, Rodwell, of Agnes St. Methodist Church; of which Mr, Peters was a member at that time, and for many years after, Of the seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Peters four survive--Ernest | Albert Peters, of Atlanta, Georgia; 'Mrs. Elwood Carruthers, Glen Major, 'Ont.; Mrs. Geo. Beverley, Claremont; and Miss Edith Orma, now teaching in Uxbridge, Two daughters died in early childhood, and Corporal Howard 0, Peters, of the 8rd Battalion, C. Company, of Toronto, lost his life in France, on June 12th, 1016. His elder brother, E. A. Petters, of the|_ 133rd Battalion, Simcoe, went right through the war until the arrival in Germany. There are seven grand children. The three daughters and three grand children Randolph and Noreen Car- ruthers, and Norma Beverley, were 'present on Thursday, together with Mr, Peters' two brothers, Jesse, of "Toronto, and James, of Udora, with his family, many friends of Toronto, Oshawa, also spent the day with Mr, and Mrs, Péters, During the after- noon and evening many Port Perry iriends called to bring their hearty congratulations, There were many beautiful presents and costly gifts from relatives and friends, including a handsome electric 'floor lamp from the children; and a 'beautiful clock from the Ladies' Bible Class of the.
