On Thursday evening, Sept. 24th, the Young People's Society of St. John's Presbyterian Church, held a very successful opening meeting, with a large attendance. ' It was "Vacation Meeting" with Miss Murziel Winchester of Toronto, energetic leader of jcanip work, and secretary to Rev. Kannawin, as special speaker. After an interesting period of wor- ship, a talk was given by the guest speaker on Summer Schools and # Camps from Coast to Coast in Can- ada. Following a lively half hour of games enjoyed by all, lunch was served and the pleasant and profitable evening ended. ----ws > r---- YOUNG PEOPLE'S SOCIETY OF . PORT PERRY UNITED CHURCH HOLD OPENING MEETING, . + A very interesting social. meeting was held, on Monday evening, Sept. 28th, when old and new 'menibers were welcomed back to start their weekly gatherings for the coming year. Mr. Gemmell occupied the chair. The devotional service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Richards. Thé business session included the nomination and election of new officers which resulted as follows: Past President--R. G. Gemmell President--Marion Goode Vice-President--Frank Slemon Secretary--Vera Miller Treasurer--Charles Reesor Convenors: Christian Fellowship, Miss Kitching Christian Citizenship -- Beverley Smallman Literary--Frances Christy Social--Alma Blight Pianiste--Mary Smallman. During the evening a pleasing event took place, when the members of the Y. P. S. presented Mr. R. G. Gemmell with an address, which was read by Miss Marion Goode. In honour of his recent marriage, a walnut combina- tion end table and magazine rack, was "brought in by Messrs. F. Slemon and C. Reesor; as a token of high esteem and appreciation for the capable and ever efficient service rendered by him during the past two years as Presi- dent of the Society.
