Clyde that com- plete domestic water service could be unbelievable sum of $8,000, but after Mr. Clyde had finished with his ex- planation of the suggested system and the manner in which it could be car- ried out, domestic water looked a whole lot closer to realization than it has ever been before. To begin with the plan first out- lined a more complete and satisfactory reservoir just north of the oatmeal pond with a flood-gate connected with the pond so that in the event of a fire in town that might necessitate the use of four nozzles for a period of more than four hours--a situation that is hardly conceivable--the water from the oatmeal pond could then be used, but until that time the mains would be filled with water from the flowing well at the Clyde home west of the tracks. Two large cement tanks are sug- gested near the flowing well; the water being filtered from one to the other to clear any sand that might possibly gather in the water after | which it is to be pumped from the last tank into the mains with an automatic electrically "driven centri- fugal pump which would maintain an average pressure for domestic pur- poses at all times high enough to force the water to the highest build- ings in town. The present system of mains would be utilized and all the additional ex- pense entailed would be the building of the tanks and installation of the pump and motor after which econnec- Phone your orders to 29w : ---- tions from the mains to the street line would be done. China has left all initiative to the private individual, with the result that in vast regions there is hardly a stick of timber available. Furthermore, the removal of the trees from the mountain slopes has caused disastrous floods and destruction of human life. Japan, on the other hand, has long since set her forest house in order, and has an up-to-date and effective scheme of forest management to make timber crops perpetual. Upon taking over Korea, Japan instituted reforestation to such purpose that already two mil- lion acres Have beén replanted with thriving tree life. et Peers BIRD HOUSES TO BE ON EXHIBIT (Uxbridge Times-Journal) Some forty bird houses of various styles of architecture will be on ex- hibit on Tuesday evening, April 19th, on the occasion of the combined Horticultural Society and Board of Trade meeting in the Town Hall, Mr. John Buchanan, of Guelph, who is very much interésted at the pre- sent time in the establishment of a Bird Sanctuary at Guelph, will give an illustrated lecture on birds. The strawberry root weevil is a native insect abundant everywhere; the larvae live on the roots of grasses, clovers and other plants. The straw- berry 'is a favorite food plant. The this crop is grown. 2. Control measures consist in the adoption of a suitable system of rotation of crops so that the planta- tion can be started on a clean field, and the application of a poison bait twice a year, commencing when the plants are first set out. . 8. The proper time to apply the bait is in the middle of April for the first application to destroy the over- wintering weevils, and from the mid- dle to the end of Jane for the second throws his baited hook or other lure | near the nest, the old bass: will seize} ; 1 it instantly, because he attacks very le ferociously anything which comes into | mu in Canada 20 years ago, the scores of | societies and clubs concerned with! fishing and 'hunting: are working hand : bodies. Applications defused totalled 876 as against 905 the previous year. In pre- senting his report, the chairman, W. Bert Roadhouse, stated: "Collections under present conditions are difficult both for the Board and the borrower. The season has been one of good crops and very, very poor prices.
