Moase and by Ives Florists. Even though the weather has been cool, the Merchant Midgets are off 10 a hot stan, having beaten Scarborough and Markham in the ffist two league games. Another positive that comes with the cool evenings at the ball park is the absence of the pesky mosquitoes which will come soon. We are for- tunate in Port Perry to have our diamonds playable so carly in the season, as the ball parks in the other centres are still unavailable for league play On Monday, Port hosted the Scarborough Reds and won 4-2 on a strong pitching effort by Chad Venning and Jeff Card. Both struck out 5 batters and, walked none. In the third inning, Scarborough threatened when they HOMEOWNERS Here's an offer you won't want to pass by! scored one, had a man on first and third with none out. Fortunately, Port executed an exciting triple play to get themselves out of the inning. Jason McBride canght the fly ball in centre field for the first out, then made a perfect throw to + catcher Scott MacLennan, tagging out the runner from third for the second out. HA club is now_in the process of look- ing for a new head coach, and he wants to have one signed "as soon as possible." In announcing his decision to step down, Hasman paid special tribute to aniza- tion which gave him tg chance to coach, and to Ga Warriner, + who "always backs my decisions, right or wrong." He joked about the'difference in their ages (Harman is 26, Warriner is on the other side of 50) but said "we are able to think in the same manner." Harman and Warriner fashioned an enviable record over the last four seasons, winning two Central Jr. C League championships, and taking the team 10 the Ontario semi finals this year. Winning an Ontario title was one goal he set four years ago, but " he also wanted to develop a club with a "reputation for winning." Warriner praised his younger counter-part, calling him an "excel- lent coach, dedicated and commit- ted." And he said with a big grin on his face, "we do have something in common----our haircuts." Harman has spent eight years with the Port Perry MoJacks, four as a goaltender and four as the head coach. When the MoJacks bowed out of the playoffs three weeks, he hinted then that he might not be back behind the bench. General manager Murray Parliament said both Harman and Warriner did an "outstanding job preparing the team game in and game out. They gave their hearts 0 this hockey club."
