Mites run into a familiar arm The Taylor Ford Mites hosted Stouffville on May 13 and ran into a familiar face, and arm, on the pitching mound. Justin Heworth, a former resi- dent of Port Perry, led Stouffville 10 a convincing win over the Port Mites. Justin and his brother Jason have re-located to Stouffville after getting their fastball start in Port . Mark Richardson started on the mound for Taylor Ford and after some early control prob- lems, he fought back to record seven Ks and had one of two hits off the Stouffville pitching. Chris Pronsma had the other safety for Southpaw Brady Tarbotton made his pitching debut for Pont in relief and Matt Skerratt saw his first action behind the plate. There was some nice defen- sive work by the Taylor Ford crew as right fielder Shawn Martin caught a hard line drive, and David Justynski showed some heads up play tagging out a runner at third who had "over- run" the bag. But the team will need some work handling those "pop flies" and getting some hits off "top speed" pitching. The team is home tonight (May 20) against Pickering at the south diamond with game time set for 6:30 PM. Pee Wee runs easy Techstar and Ray Rankin Carpentry hooked up in Pee Wee Squirt House league action on opening day (May 12) And runs were easy to come by as the Rankin squad rolled to a 28- 12 victory over Techstar. There was lots of good offense and some stellar defense by both teams. Techstar's Glenn Espie had a good game at the plate and team- mate Chris Langford performed well in a defensive role. Steven Elliott also had a good game for Techstar batting in an RBI For Ray Rankin Carpentry, Scott Harper tumed in a fine pitch- '} Rog. $14.95 Now $9.95 ing performance (he's the ace of the squad) and Chris Drury and Michael Cannon showed some strong power at the plate and some heads up plays in the field. And how about Kam Cooper who topped the day with a grand slam in the 5th. Not too often do we see a round-tripper with the bases loaded. Right from the outset, both the Ray Rankin gang and Techstar worked hard on all aspects of the game, including attitude and spirit. This was a great kick-off to the season and if this game is any indi- cation, we're in for a great summer on the diamonds.
