It was another per- fect evening for baseball and the result was an exciting game from both teams. . Pizza Delight juniped to an early lead, scoring runs in each inning and managed to hold the lead with 10 runs scored as Schildt came up 40 bat last. Due to the holiday, the Machining crew were short players, but a deter- mined team effort got things rolling after a couple of innings, scoring runs and making things close by leav- ing two runners on base with the tying run at home plate. Schildt's outstanding players were Justin Sanders - 3 for 4 and a big hit, Levon Murison - 3 for 4 and a big hit, and Scott Evans - 4 for 4, a big hit, and an important double play that saved a couple of runs. For Pizza Delight, the middle of the batting order played outstanding ball with Donnie Sherriffs, Gregory, Hunter and Pierce Jones all going 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and some fine defensive plays. A great effort from all the players. Catch more exciting 7-8 baseball on Monday, June 1 at R.H. Cornish and Perry Glen Park. Mites House League It was another great week of ball with Seagrave opening the game with runs scored in the first inning. The Courells came back to do the same. Both teams made some key plays. Coming through for Seagrave was Jason 10 bat in the first run with Kim and Michael scoring in the third. Cottrells came through with Jesse Mischtain, Krystal Archibald and Christopher Furlotte who put on a good show and the team came up with awinof 15-10. Thanks to all the parents who helped with the game. All the kids played a great game. Pee Wee Squirt Action Greenbank diamond was the scene [ as Ray Rankin Carpentry won a nar- row come-from-behind victory over Perfect Heating in Pee Wee Squirt Boys Softball this past Tuesday, May 19th in an exciting match-up. Ray Rankin now goes to 2 and 0+ on the season so far with their 9-8 squeaker over the Perfect Heating squad. Perfect Heating lead most of the way until the later stages with major contributions coming from Clayton Brown and Graeme Powell who both pitched strong efforts in tan. dem. Paul Chang, Kurt Saari and Andrew Donnelly all went 2 for 2 at the plate as Perfect Heating displayed all round excellent hitting. The big win came for the Rankin team with 2 out in the bottom of the final inning as Cory Raines, who was 2 for 2 on the day, stole home from third on a wild pitch to cap a never- say-die effort on the base paths. Taylor Kirk also sparked his team's play overall and mighty Matthew Blake simply out did himself with his terrific batting and fantastic fielding. Overall a good game resulting in a dramatic finish and a credit to both these teams. "Taylor Ford Mites - Fastball and Bramalea 'B' Champs" On May 23rd, Pont Perry's all star mites fastball team travelled to Bramalea for their first tournament of the season. To the surprise of all, the team came together with everyone contributing and left Bramalea with the "B"-division championship title. The day started in very hot weath- er and our rep team was a little slow getting started and lost a nail-biter to Pickering by a 9-8 score. Starter Mark Richardson allowed only 2 hits but Pickering took advantage of walks to the win. Tim Jones came in from the bull-pen for his first season appearance on the rubber to record a 3 up 3 down final inning. Mark, Braden Tarbotton and Mike Lefort had hits for Port Perry. Thomhill were our opponents for the second game and after some early inning difficulty in adjusting to the 'Thornhill pitcher's unusual delivery our batting eyes came alive in the inning and we coasted to a 15-2 victory. Braden pitched a complete game no-hitter for the win in his first start of the season. Aaron Lycett had a big game at bat with a homer and a triple and Mark Richardson also homered. Sean Jeffrey batted 2 for 2 and David Justynski doubled and sin- 34 Water Street, Port Perry, FORDER - INSURANCE BROKERS INC. PARKS | . . Mike Lefort clobbered his first season 4 bagger in the fourth inning uprising and Tim notched his first safety of the year. Chris Monsma also swatted 2 hits for 2 RBI's. Darren Miller scored after chipping in a nice hit to add to the Taylor Ford "hit parade." Big Matt Skerratt did a great job behind the plate to share in the "no hit" success. Our third game of the day was against the favoured Stouffville squad but our team was very sharp in imple- menting the defénsive skills and base- running skills that they have been working on in practices and we stole a 3-2 victory to set up our appearance in the Championship game. Mark Richardson pitched a dandy one-hitter and was very sharp in notching 10 strikeouts (including one beautiful change-up) and allowed only 3 walks. Adam Moynes also went the distance behind the plate and was tireless in retrieving balls in the dirt and in holding runners at thei bases. Our improving team defence was displayed in the last inning when Mark fielded a grounder, threw to Tim at first for the out and Tim relayed the ball to Adam at the plate for a double play tag of the runner trying to score from third. Chris, Mark, Braden and Mike had safe ties for Port. Darren did a fine job as out- field captain in centre field. For their fourth game of the day, Port Perry's reps had to face Thornhill again in the "B" Championship game. Thornhill had bumped off Willowdale for their chance. Players from both teams (as well as officials and Parents!) deserve a lot of credit for their effort in this game which was a real "character- builders" as it was played under very windy, wet and cold conditions. Our defense was hot in the first inning however as third baseman Braden snagged a hard-line drive and alertly threw to Chris covering at sec- ond for the double play. Mark started and got the win allowing just one hit and striking out 7. Braden played the fireman when mark started to tire in the fourth inning. He came on with bases loaded and shut down a Thornhill rally and recorded 2 key outs. he went on to register the save on a 1, 2, 3, final inning. Our tired catchers, Adam and Matt, continued to scramble behind the plate'in con- tributing to the win. Mark made a div- ing catch at first to help out'at defense. Darren played shivering, hot defence, on balls hit his way. | Offensively, Mike continued to use the tips gained in practice to fur- ther a hot-hitting day with 2 hits. Chris also had 2 hits while Sean J., David, Tim, Aaron, Braden also had hits. All in all, a good day of fastball for this young and inexperienced team Your effort and sportsmanship was a credit 10 your sponsor and your town. Keep it up! "Legionaire Squirt Fastballers Undefeated" On May 20th, Port Perry's all star fastball squirt team were on the road against Pickering in another "York Durham" league game. This was a game that neither team seemed intent on winning and numerous errors on both sides were the order of the day. Pickering jumped out to a 9-1 lead after 2 innings to capitalize on the poor play of the Legionaires. Port Perry rebounded thankfully with 7 runs in the final inning to steal a 13- 12 victory and keep their undefeated streak alive. 3 Casey VanSchagen came on to pitch in relief of Chris Jones at the start of the fourth inning and got cred- it for the "win." Between them they allowed 9 hits, gave up 6 walks and had 6 strikeouts. Offensively, Jeff Ashton contin- ued his early season batting success with another triple. Casey went 2 for 2 and singles were contributed by Ryan Moynes, Ryan McQuade, Chris Jones, and Jon Froats. Brad Monsma reached first in every at-bat with a hit More Sports Shorts, page 21
