J A big week for Scouts! By Nancy Anger Wow, what a year! The 1991-92 Boy Scout year is just about over and what a busy year it has been. The surrounding com- munities have been more than gener- ous supporting the fundraisers that our group has carried out this year (bottle drives, Apple Day, cheese and chocolates at Christmas, Trees for Canada and box plants). If not for your generosity, the boys would not be able to enjoy camps and other activities that have been offered. 1st Cartwright became the 23rd group in Ontario that became co-ed. We now have girls in the Scout troop and they seem to be having a great time. I am sure we will be see- ing more girls joining in September. Just after Christmas, Ist Cartwright added a Venturer Company with the boys and I doing a variety of activities an showing some of the camping skills to the scout troop. Venturers is also open to girls who want to do camp- ing and learn other outdoor skills. A lot of people (leaders, group committee and other helpers behind the scenes) have worked hard this year to give the 1st Cartwright scouting youth a full and fun-filled year. On June 3rd, we had swim-up. This is where the scouters move up from gne group to another (eg. Beaver to Cubs). On June 7th, 1st Cartwright held its end of the year banquet. Trophies and other awards were handed out to the gop scouters in each section. Even though most of the sections have finished for the year, some of us are still involved in things over the summer, We will be manning the food booth at the Blackstock Tractor Pull. At the Blackstock Fair, some of the leaders will be available at an information booth to answer ques- tions from those parents who have boys interested in the Beaver and Cub sections and boys and girls for the Scout and Venturer sections. Our group is always looking for people who would like to be part of 1st Cartwright Scouting, so if you have any free time and it doesn't have to be a lot (whether to help at NK meetings, be a leader, head up a fundraiser or just come and talk to the youth about an interesting sub- ject) we sure would like to hear from you, Please give me a call at 986-7 0901 or Pauline at 986-5458. We hope everyone has a wondes- ful and safe summer and we will gee you in the fall. These seven smiling boys 'moved up', Wednesday evening. Front row, from left: , Noel , Darryl Goulding.
