Oshawa Juniors win fastball tournament The Oshawa "BB" Juniors cap- twred the annual Port Perry Fastball Tournament Sunday night with a near flawless 2-0 victory over Rock In Zoo from Scarborough. The Juniors got a masterful pitching performance from hard- throwing lefty Brad Baker (on loan to the team for this tournament from the Oshawa Merchants senior team) who held the Zoo batters 0 Just three scattered singles. Strong defense by the Juniors prevented those three Zoo runners from advancing beyond first base Baker was in peak form in this ope, throwing 14 strike-outs. And mixing the change-up with the "heat," had the Zoo batters off bal- ance from start to finish. The Juniors touched up Zoo pitcher Gary Latchford for eight hits (he fanned four) including a line drive solo home run by Mike Dingman in the fourth that casily Gamblers streak The Greenbank Gamblers had their winning streak broken off at 13 when they were defeated 2-1 by Thunder Sunday after- noon in the annual Port Perry tournament. Gamblers were one of the pre- tournament favourites and ges off to a good stant with wins of 54 and 16-1 before running into the Thunder who are now responsible for two of the five losses the team cleared the fence in straight-away centre. That run was all they need- ed, but they added a bit of insur- ance in the next inning as Phil Yahn crunched a double and then was driven home by Baker who helped his own cause by driving a long triple to the fence to make it 2-0 Yahn had a productive final game with two doubles and Baker had a pair of singles around his RBI triple. The game was played Sunday evening "under the lights" at the North Diamond and attracted a large crowd of spectators who wit- nessed a fine performance by both teams. The Juniors have three Scugog players on the roster: Tim Timms and John Ennis from Greenbank and Kevin Gibson from Port Perry. The game was the finale of the 12-tcam tournament that got under- has suffered in 26 league and tour- nament games to date this season.
