It was passed on to the Citizen by the committee. Dear organizers: Congratulations and thanks to both organizing tcams for once again staging two excellent events. Your attention to detail has cer- tainly paid off in the smooth operation of both races. Quite an plish for a plicated event like a Triathlon! My only disappointment is that I never seem to have enough time to really enjoy your beautiful location in and around Port Perry. 1 would like to put forward a suggestion that I believe would enhance your races and change one excellent day into an exception- al weekend in Port Perry. We fought long and hard and finally, some cight years ago, many of the residents had new wells in their back yards. That source of water is threatened again, if the dump is located just one kilometer from our back door. Three years ago, when the owner of trucks that pick up garbage for the Township, planned to buy property in Manchester to park and repair those to get new wells, because the people stood together again this project. What I find ironic about the whole situation is that this part of the Ward 1 where we live, does not have municipal garbage, pick-up. We have to take care of our own garbage. Now they are proposing to dump everyone else's on us. There are five proposed sites in the Township, on a list of 17 in Durham Region. Odds are that one Scugog site will be on the "short list™ in September. 1 haye addressed only a few of the problems a dump will cause if located in our area. But think about having to fight a stream of garbage trucks as you drive to and from work. Think of the re-sale value of your home. Think of those pleasant back yard when the smell of garbage drifts past your nose. We have 10 stand up and be heard, or we will get dumped on. The Triathlon bike/run held on Sunday moming contend with less traffic and therefore would be SAFER than on a busy Saturday afternoon. Port Perry streets are very busy on Saturday. 2. It would be cooler on Sunday morning (Saturday was very warm in '91). 3. Visitors 10 Port Perry would be able to stay longer with the Iting injection of into the local y. 4. Since the NDP government has stopped negotiating, the Alliance is trying to establish the constitutional right of independent schools to some public funding through the courts. Our schools are not looking for full funding, but are hoping to gain access to health and support services, and through partial fund- ing, to make Christian schools affordable to families at all income levels. The hearing in this case ended on June 4, and Judge Anderson, having heard all the arguments for and'againdt the challenge, has promised a decision some time in late of July or August. We are hoping the results of the hearing will be favourable to our schools, as we continue 10 promote our goals of a religiously based view of life, the teaching of Christian morality in the lives of young per- sons, the nurture of the traditional family, and the pursuit of academ- ic excellence.
