SPORTS SHORTS PEE WEE/SQUIRT BOYS By Judy MacSween Fans and coaches witnessed a great game last Tuesday between Perfect Heating and Techstar in Perfect Heating had 10 players while Techstar only fielded 6. Both teams played good ball. The Heaters got their first 15 runs in the first 3 innings with only 3 outs, while Techstar scored 6. In the last 3, Perfect Heating came back with § more runs and Techstar scored 4. Final score was 20-10 for Perfect Heating. Outstanding players for Perfect Heating were Paul Chang who went 4 for 4 at the plate including a double and a triple. Travis MacSween and Steven Martyn who both did a great job on 3rd and also went 4 for 4. Ryan McBride, who made some great defensive plays along with his awe- some catches and who also pitched a good inning. Ben Frith also pitched a inning and he made some fine catches behind the plate. Also, Andrew Donnelly played an excellent MUSSEL HOTLINE 00-653-7711 defensive and offensive game hitting 3ford. Techstar's team should all be proud of themselves for playing like a team. There was only 6 of them and they all played great. Catcher Danny Drebit deserves credit for his out- standing catches, tagging 3 out at home. Grant McCoshen who played a strong defensive game and Adam Brain, whose offensive game was fan- tastic, hitting 4 for 5. ADVENTURES IN T-BALL By Trevor Jones Tuesday night it was like 'deja vu' all over again as the Port Perry Minor Softball T-Ball teams were back at the diamonds. Holidays seem to have depleted the ranks but those that were there saw more action. The first game had the Spitfires tangle with Lizy-Lou Decor. The shortage of little people allowed gach team to bat around twice per inning. Racking up hits for the Spitfires were Danielle Beach, Shono Tighe, and Michael Redman. Swinging hot bats for Lizy-Lou Decor were Craig 'Thomson (with at least two doubles), Jeff Rankin and Brooke Simpson. HaM Wright Sox played their last game of the season and won 22 to 20 tpainat Blackstock Lioness. Tim Gibson, Mitch Truax and Kory Bauer each had & homerun, Kyle and Jesse Mullins each had a triple. Allison McArthur, Kristyna Baur and Gage Billings played super in the infield, Cheryl Colwell was terrific behind homeplate. Scott Jorgensen played great at second base and Donald Shaw had some super hits. Everyone played great. We look forward to our tourna- ment on August 8th. Good luck 0 all the teams. July 29, Lishmans 18-Blackstock EG scored 4 runs in their half. Port's lead off bauer BJ walked as did Chad and with 1 out Brent had a double but our next hitiers were struck out after 6, EG-10, Port 5. The final inning saw some excel- lent tag outs at 2nd and 3rd and EG did not score and in our half, Bill walked but Pott could not bring him home. Final score EG 10, Port 5. CANADIAN TIRE BANTAM 5-EG 10. On July 28, East Gwillumbury travelled to Port for the 4th meeting and EG won the previous three games. Mike Underwood started on the mound and struck the first batter out but the next batters reached base with BB and with the bases loaded, EG's Sth batter had a seeing eye triple between the gap of left and centre field, scoring all three runners. Mike struck out the next two bat- ters and in Port's half, they had two flys and one ground out. Inning EG-3 Port 0. In the second, Mike struck out the side on K's and Mike had a single but Port was unable 0 score and after 2nd, the score remained EG 3-Port 0. The 3rd inning, Mike registered another 2 K's, but EG scored 1 run on a triple and Port's Dave B. walked and he scored on Paul's double to make the score 1-3 for EG. EG were held scoreless in the 4th, and had 1 hit with 2 K's and a fly out to Dave B. and in Port's half Mike had a single, as did BJ, Kenton and Brent, who also scored BJ. And with runners on 1st and 3rd, two out and a score of 4-2, Port was called out on a lead off to end the inning with EG 4-Pont 2. EG scored 2 runs in the Sth, Mike struck | out, Dave B. and Paul caught fly outs and in Port's half Dave B. had a lead off single. Paul singled as did Joe and Dave, who was tagged at home leav- ing runners at 2 and 3 when Bill had a triple, leaving home two runs. After 5, EG 6-Pont 4. In the 6th, EG had 3 hits, 2 walks and again a triple scored 3 runs and Zone Ch ionship was played in Port Perry, north diamond, at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday August 4, against Campbellford. Their next game is Thursday, August 6 in Campbeliford at 8 pm. Game 3 was (0 be decided by a coin toss for the fins game on August 4. LEGIONAIRE SQUIRT FASTBALLERS WIN TWO Port Perry's all-star fastball squirt team won (wo games in the York Durham League last week. On July 29th they travelled to Nesueton to face our Cartwright neighbours and won by a 19-5 margin. Oshawa visited Port Perry on July 30th and were vic- timized by a late game rally as our squad overcame a listless start and went on to a 9-3 victory. At Cartwright, the Legionaires were led offensively by Ryan who banged out 2 triples in additién to 2 other hits. Jeff Ashton and Casey Van Schageri eachcqllect- ed 3 hits, Ryan Moynes had 2 hjts while Ryan Fraser and Scout Jeffrey each contributed singles. Michael Versae drew 4 walks while Reid art earned 3 free passes. Chris Jones pitched the win and allowed just 1 hit while Jon Froats got the save in his first appearance on the rubber this season.
