Brother, sister meet after 38 years After a separation of 38 years, Jenny Franks saw her younger brother Bill Hardy again for the first time and her initial reaction was "he hasn't changed much at "I think Bf still looks very much as he did the last time I saw him", said Jenny as she sat at the dining room table of her comfortable home in Manchester. With her was brother Bill, his wife Margaret and Jenny's husband Frank, enjoying the last few days of a ten day reunion after 38 long years apart. Bill has made his home in Auckland, New Zealand for the last 18 years where he works as an engineer, and while raising three children, it just wasn't possible or feasible to travel to North America for a visit. But with the children grown up, Bill and Margaret began anning this trip about five years ago. "Finally, it all came together for us," he told the Citizen. Bill is the youngest of seven children and was ten when their mother passed away in Leicester, England. Jenny, 22 years Bill's senior was already married and living in a different city. Aside from a couple of summers when Bill was a youngster they didn't see each other, as he was being raised by another older sister. Jenny and Doug moved to Canada in 1§56 and a few years later, Bill decided New Zealand would be a nice place to live and work. Bill and Margaret arrived in Canada August 2 and first visited his sister Doreen in British Columbia. Then it was on to the Port Perry area for the visit with Jenny. They've been doing a bit 'of - sight-seeing in Toronto, Niagara Falls, Haliburton and Elmira, but Bill said the real purpose of the trip is "to spend time with family." They've had a lot of years to catch up on as both Jenny and Bill admit they "were not much for letter writing......just a card at Christmas or for a birthday, if we remember." If there is one'obvious trait Bill and Jenny share it a youthful appearance. Both look much much younger than their years. She is 71 and he's 49. They have been comparing notes on Canada and New Zealand and Bill said that country is going through tough econgmic times much like is. He said his impression of Canada is that like New Zealand with its mountains, lakes, rivers and forests, this is a country of great contrast and physical beauty. On Tuesday of this week Bill and Margaret said goodby to Jenny and Doug and left for a seven week visit to their native England, their first since leaving for New Zealand 18 years ago. And no, they are not going to wait too many years before meeting again. In fact, Jenny and Doug are planning a trip to New Zealand in 1994.
