pd ip LL I 3 Fire fighters here for competition The second annual Durham Region Auto Extrication competition will be held this Saturday in Port Perry and the public is more than welcome to take in the events. There will be 14 teams of firefighters competing (up from eight last year) including Scugog Township Hall 2 (Caesarea) which won the event in 1991. Others include Newcastle, Ajax, Mariposa, Uxbridge, Pontypool, Janetville, Huntsville, Brock Township, CFB Ottawa, Mount Albert and West Carleton, a winner of the Internationals. Deputy Chief Don Steele said that along with the extrications, the public will be able to see static displays by Durham Police and the OPP, an Air Ambulance helicopter and Metro Ambulance. Admission is just $1 for adults with the kids in free. In real life situations, extrication is used by fire departments to free victims trapped in auto accidents. Their quick work often means the difference between life and death. Judging for the competitions on Saturday will be done by Ontario Fire Marshall personnel.
