Reduction P More Scugog break-ins The rash of break and enters in Scugog Township continued last week. Durham Police say a home on Proutt Road was entered through a window September 24 with a quantity of coins and jewellery taken. On September 25, a home on MacDonald Street in Port Perry was entered with cash taken. And the same day, cash, liquor home on Simcge Street in Port Perry. . A home on Old Scugog Road, Blackstock was entered September 22 with jewels, a small amount of money and a VCR taken. And on September 26, the Port Perry General Store on Highway TA lost a carton of cigarettes in an early morning robbery which resulted in $250 damage to a glass door. These incidents come on the heels of numerous break-ins at industrial parks on Durham Road 8 the previous week in which more than $25,000 in tools and construction equipment was stolen. Inspector Ross Smith, the officer in charge of 26 Division said Police are doing everything humanly possible to find those responsible. He said the rash of break and enters is most likely related to the tough economic times." Last Wednesday morning, 26 Division officer charged a Pefferlaw man with six counts of * possessing stolen proj y and a camera were lifted from a § stolen, pregery Police pursued a 1988 GMC cube van from Port Perry to Line 14, west of Highway 12 and apprehended William Melrose Powell, 31. The van had been reported stolen from Toronto and contained about $25,000 in stolen auto parts and tools. He was also charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to stop for police and driving while under suspension. A second vehicle, pursued by police at the same time was found on an @bandoned rail line off the Marsh Hill Road. The driver made his escape on foot and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. $1,000 fine for. dumping trash An Uxbridge Township man has been fined $1,000 after being found guilty of dumping trash beside a road in Scugog Township. Jack Watson was given six months to pay the fine after being found guilty by a Justice of the Peace in Ontario Court Monday morning. Testimony in court by Township by-law officer Bill Henshall indicated 22 bags of garbage were dumped on Line 8 near the Nonquon River last May. Letters and other material with the accused man's name and address were found in the bags, court was told Scugog Township has promised a 'get tough" policy with anyone who dumps illegally on public or private property.
