Letters to the Editor Thanks for the laughs To the Editor: On September 27, a bunch of wonderful ladies and gentlemen from the Standard Electric lob ball team put a highlight in their summer by winning the consolation division in their league. The team made up of Kim and Becky Gower, Laura Justynski, Stacy Tower, Jennifer Morden, Ron Vokins, Brad Plain, Matt Coyne, Mike and Rick Olaisen, Jason Buller, Mike Powell, Rob Boadway, Chad Murphy, and Mike Suppelsa, finished the season in 7th place but still managed to pull it all together when it counted. I was asked by John Dawson, organizer, to help with the team. He said it would be a lot of fun and I wasn't disappointed, If you ever wanted to film a commercial for "Tide", pick a rainy Sunday night after 8:30 p.m., grab your umbrella and come to the south diamond for some laughs. These young people had a great time and really showed me what fun was all about. It has been a long time since [ have seen teenagers having so much fun and enjoying themselves as they did. It was a good learning experience for me as the gang taught me a lot about today's youth. Respect and appreciation are two of the big things. The members of Standard Electric are certainly prepared and Beef herd supervision Staff of the Beef Herd Improvement Program recently d that as of S 8, 1992, both supervised and unsupervised weaning and yearling weights will be accepted in the program. The option to have both supervised and pervised weights ilabl was recommended by producers, weigh clubs and the Ontario Beef Cattle Performance Association. The change will enable producers, who have their own scales, to be able to easily schedule their time for weighing of calves. The program provides a very useful management tool for 'beef producers to evaluate their animals. Either unsupervised weights will now be accepted as the mandatory * component for the Red Meat 11 Cow-Calf Development Program. I would like to thank each and every one of them for putting up with me this year, not having the diamond ready on time, falling asleep on third base, forgetting the bases and various other screw-ups. As well thanks for the mud bath and all the laughs. I had a great time. Also, an extremely big thank- you to Judy Phinney, for without her help, we never would have made it. Judy was put in as manager with no chance of saying no. Thank-you, Judy, and by the way, how did you manage to avoid the mud bath? Thanks as well to John Dawson from our team and the others. We all know the work you put into this league and it is appreciated by all. IN conclusion, if you ever want to see a great bunch of kids having fun, catch a game in the Youth Lob Ball League. The country will be in good hands in years to come. Good luck to all the team and I hope to see you all next year. Coach- Lloyd Morden Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, October 6, 1993 -- 11_<a Subjected to "power-grabbing ploy" To the Editor: This is in reference to the front page story in the September 29 Scugog Citizen concerning the up-coming vote on the Constituti Referend "concessions" being offered to the power-mad politicians of Quebec under the guise of C i blank contract, would you sign a blank cheque? Have you seen the Accommodation are nothing less than total abdication of In spite of the listing of the "illustrious" supporters of the "YES" vote, true Canadians with even a modicum of concern and intelligence will vote "NO." Canada was and is a nation wrought of many immigrant races all of whom have contributed in, their own way, the essence of their origins and which have, over many decades, enriched this country to an extent envied by much of the world. Why then, are we being subjected to this political, power- grabbing ploy? My political views aside, one of our true . constitutional experts, Eugene Forsey has stated emphatically that there is no need for any constitutional change, save and except minor clarifications. No province, no county, no township nor any municipality has, under a true democratic system of government, any rights greater than another. The ponsibility by Brian Mulroney and his ilk. Don't be mis-led and don't acquiesce. These political plotters have attempted to convince you, spending your own tax dollars to do so, that you are tired of the political wrangling and that if you give in to a vote yes, you will, at last, have political peace. If you vote YES, it is the equivalent to the opening of Pandora's Box. Far greater demands will follow. Very simply, would you sign a Charl n Agr ? Mr. Mulroney appears to be emulating the character in the play "Guys and Dolls," who states "there ain't no spots on these dice, but I remember where they were." Vote NO and send Ross Stevenson and his fear- mongering fellow MPs back to 'the job.we charged them with when we elected them: to represent us and our interests, not those of Messrs. Mulroney. Bourassa and their minions. Yours truly, Keith Charles, Port Perry, Ont. Reformer nominated Barry Devolin has been nominated to carry the Reform Party banner in Victorian- Haliburton riding in the next federal election. . Devolin, a resident of Haliburton won the nomination September 28 on the first ballot, defeating Paul Pagnuelo and Victor Norman. The nomination meeting was held in Lindsay and attracted a large crowd of Reformers. Devolin said his first duties as the candidate will start immediately in a campaign against the October 26 referendum. He said the Charlottetown Agreement is not going to improve the existing Constitution.
