Prevedel, P.Eng Director of Transportation (Monday to Friday 8:30 -- 4:30) torees this fall, producers may be * Help on the way for corn growers or spring to harvest, " said Henry Ediger, General Manager of the Crop Insurance Commission. Corn is usually harvested in the fall, but the cool, wet weather this year has slowed the normal development of the crop and made harvesting more difficult. By leaving the crops to dry in the field this winter before harvesting, some farmers may be able to salvage their corn. If a corn crop is harvestable this year, yields will be measured after harvest has been completed to determine if a producer is entitled to an® insurance claim, Ediger noted Producers entitled to a claim will be issued claim cheques as quickly as possible In cases where corn cannot be harvested this fall and the producer leaves the Kon crop in the field over the winter, the Commission may consider issuing an advance on claim payments to those producers. If a corn crop is determined to be of no feed value, the Commission will allow the corn crop to be destroyed. If crops must be destroyed, claim payments are processed after the crop has been destroyed. Ediger says farmers should consult their insurance adjuster as written permission 18 required before destroying a corn field. Much of this year's harvested corn will have a lighter than normal weight per bushel. If a crop 18 sold, the total weight will be used as a yield to count. If the crop is stored on the farm, volume measurement will be adjusted to the standard of 56 pounds per bushel. "Future crop insurance and market revenue coverage is based on historic yields, so that it is to the producer's advantage to harvest as much corn as can be harvested", he baid.
