"Changing the renewal period is one way we are taking steps to improve customer service and make the best use of ministry resources,"said Ontario Transportation Minister Gilles Pouliot. Currently, Ontario's six million licensed drivers must renew. their licence every three years. The change in the renewal period goes into effect for drivers whose licenses expire on or after January 20, 1993. It will take sevep years for the change to affect all drivers. The renewal process will rem#fh the same for most types of licenses. People with licenses to drive tractor- trailers,'buses, trucks and ambulances will still be required to have medical examinations every three years. The annual fee for a driver's licence remains unchanged at $10 per year. Notification of an upcoming renewal with the fee will continue to be sent out well in advance of the expiry date of a licence. Usually I'm still wrapping presents, occasionally even finishing making a personal present (otherwise known as hi de). I can't be d of forgetting what's under the gift wrapping. The nice thing about last minute packaging - no creases or wrinkles! Among the many things I leave to the last minute is the Christmas baking! This recipe is a great alternative to the traditional Christmas cake, and carries well for cookie exchanges or gifts. It takes about the same preparation time as fruitcake but I think they are worth the effort. The recipe is from one of my all-time favourite "cookbooks - Mary Lisko the Happy Cooker - 1976 Christmas Cake Cookies Chop into different sizes, (not &. too uniform) and combine: 2 Ibs dates 1/2 Ib. red and green candied cherries 2 1/2 1b. candied yellow pineapple 1/2 Ib. shelled almonds 1/2 1b. shelled brazil nuts Cream together: 1 cup butter 1 1/2 cups sug: 2 large eggs Sift together a creamed mixture: 2 V2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon Add fruit mixture and mix until well blended - finishing with your hands if need be! Cool before storing in an airtight container. add to Nine arrested on drug and weapons charges Durham Police and the RCMP have arrested nine persons on numerous drug and weapons charges. The arrests came November 17 with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police and other local police forces. Police say the arrests came as a result of a major investigation that started last summer, and a warrant has been issued for the arrest of one more person. The arrests involved the trafficking of illegal and prescription drugs in both Durham Region and Metro Toronto. k & Delicatessen 38 WATER ST., PORT PERRY 985-3 Kountry Bul STORE HOURS: Mon. Tues.
