wp 20-- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday , Novemb 34, 1997 du "CITIZEN SPORTS Bruins bring MoJacks back to earth After putting together a modest three-game winning streak, the Port Perry MoJacks came back to earth with a huge thud Friday evening in Uxbridge as the Bruins romped to a 10-3 victory. But the loss could cost the ModJacks more than just the points. Netminder Ian Cooper is facing a suspension of at least three games as he was hit with a deliberate attempt to injure match penalty during a melee in the crease in the second period. Referee Brent Thompson ruled Cooper deliberately jumped on an opposition player. This was a game the MoJacks would just as soon forget as ! they let the Bruins score seven times in the middle frame to break open what had been a fairly close contest. Curtis Hodgins led Bruins with a hat trick, with Jamie Showers and Darryl Bricknell firing two goals each. For the ModJacks, Shannon Todd had two and Jarrett Harman a single. For Todd, the two goals 'give him 15 for the season so far. Last Thursday evening at the Ivory Sunday, November 22, the Ivory Forest Belles journeyed to Etobicoke to play the Etobicoke Debs. Port seemed to be off to a sluggish start but soon picked up the pace. Although Etobicoke scored the first goal Port Perry soon answered with a goal of their own scored an unassisted effort by Megan Marlowe. Nine minutes into the period Jennifer Smith slipped in Port's second goal, also Scugog Arena, MoJacks upped their winning streak to three games with a solid 6-2 victory over the Lakefield Chiefs. And it was a game Brent Gaylor likely won't forget for a while. He pumped in four goals to pace the MoJacks and early in the second set what has to be some kind of a record for fastest goals. Gaylor bagged three in the span of 18 seconds. His first at 3:43 came when he slapped a puck from the slot that rattled off the post, then at 3:53 he was set up ifi front by Jim Vernon and JaXrett Harman. Just seven séconds later, Vernon carried the puck in on the Lakefield net for a shot and *Gaylor was there to shovel in the rebound. That flurry broke open what had been a fairly close game. The score had been tied 1-1 and once the MoJacks had the 4-1 lead, they really went to work to shut down the Chief attack. Vernon opened the scoring at the ten second mark of the first on a set-up from Jan Heyes and Harman. Chiefs tied things two minutes later when Dan Rutherford snapped one past Ian Cooper. Clair Cornish, after missing several games gave the ModJacks a 5-1 lead late in the second on a nice feed from Steve Laird. And the only goal in the final frame came at 13:16 as Gaylor got his fourth of the game (10th of the season) with a shot from about 16 feet in front of the Lakefield net. ModJacks made some defensive errors in the first period, but got away with them as the Chiefs were not able to cash them. After that, MoJacks settled down and played solidly at both ends of the ice. SLAPSHOTS: After Friday night's fight-filled game between the MoJacks and the Bruins, the two teams have a chance to pick up where they left off tonight (Nov. 24) as they meet in Uxbridge at 8:30 PM. This Thursday night (Nov. 26) Modacks host the Bowmanville: Eagles for an 8:30 faceoff and on Sunday night, will meet the Bruins again this time at the Scugog Arena with faceoff at 7:30 PM. elles win 5- unassisted. However, with only nineteen seconds remaining in the period Etobicoke scored their second goal to tie the game. During the second period Port popped in three additional goals. Leea Kinnunen snagged the ring and passed over to Karen Kett who slid in goal number three. Port's fourth marker flew off Jennifer Smith's stick after she picked up a pass from Megan Marlowe. With only 49 seconds remaining Megan Marlowe picked up another assist as she passed the ring over to Kim Poppleton who skated in, waited for the right moment, and flipped in Port's fifth and final goal. Etobicoke tallied up one additional goal. The game ended with Port emerging victorious by a 5-3 score. Cartwright Central Junior Girls Volleyball team won first place In a tournament played recently at Port Perry High School. The Cartwright girls went through the eight game round « robin without a loss and In the final defeat Thorah School 15-12 and 15-0. With three goals In a span of 18 seconds, Gaylor set what has to be some kind of record for the three quickest goals. MoJacks could have used some quick goals the next night in Uxbridge as they were bounced 10-3 by the Bruins. Leafs over Habs in Jr. floor hockey The Leafs and the Canadiens met in fast paced Junior Floor Hockey action on Mon. Nov. 16. The Leafs won with a 3-0 final score but the Canadiens never let up and played hard for all 3 perjods. Lindsay Carr got things rolling for the Leafs with David Halward and Mark Morrison adding goals 2 and 3. The first Intermediate game of the might pitted the Golden Rods against the Red Wings. The Red Wings edged out the Golden Rods by a score of 5-4. The Red Wings took the lead in the first period with 2 goals by Tyler Mark. Chris Langford scored 1 goal for the Golden Rods. Both teams played strong floor hockey in the second period with each scoring 2 goals. Darryl Dalton and Jason Lown scored for the Red Wings and Chris Langford and Greg Langford each popped . onein for the Golden Rods. The third period saw Jason Issacs score the Golden Rods 4th goal and Jason Lown fire in the Red Wings winner. The second intermediate game on Monday evening was a match between the Blue Bombers and the Mighty Ducks. The Blue Bombers took this one by a score of 7-5. In a fast first period the Blue Bombers racked up 4 goals. Scorers for the Bombers were Kevin Duncan with 2 goals and Darren Miller and Craig Cannon with one a piece. The Mighty Ducks were also busy in the first period popping in 3 goals. Marksmen for the Ducks were Dustin Bowes, Eric Bird and Ryan Jansen. The second period saw the Bombers score 3 unanswered goals. Adam Youmans fired in 2 of these with Craig Cannon adding the third. The Mighty Ducks fought back in the third period with 2 more goals, scored by Carlos Connell and Trevor Doan. OMHA Midget A Tournament Sat. Nov. 28 at the Scugog Arena
