SHL teams reaching parity ] There were some upsets in the Scugog Hockey League and the usual exciting end-to-end games by the boys of winter. As in previous years, all teams have proven that on any given Sunday morning at the Scugog Arena, any team can grab a victory. Game one last Sunday morning was an interesting match-up as the Compton Comets doubled the Van and Truck World Sharks 4-2 to move them into 4th place in the standings. The game had the Comets take the lead only to the Sharks come back to tie things 4n the first two periods. But the Comets secured the victory with a strong third period performance. Oxley, Jobb, Hope and Dickson did the damage for the Comets with assists to Bruce Smith, Hope, Hudson, Jobb, Duncan and Asselstine. Replying for the Sharks were Campbell from Durward and Beveridge, along with Fox from Campbell and Beveridge. Game two appeared to be a "normal" outing for the Fitzgerald Clippers as they Taylor Aces took the early lead on'a blast by Tom Barnes from Dwayne Bronsen in the first minute. However, the Clippers decided to give it their best shot and pulled off a 2-1 upset even though they were missing three key players. The game featured some aggressive play on the part of both teams, and. it was a second period flurry by the Clippers that led to goals by Kelly Lee from Lefort and Ron ik, and then Cl Stephenson from Smart and Gracie. That was all they needed to take the two points and move into a tie in the standings with the Aces. Special mention should go to John Moore in Aces cage and Ken Harman in the net for the Clippers as both made numerous difficult stops to keep the game close. A late effort at an empty net by a certain Clipper "Sure Shot™ Wreckers over Lions It was Whitby Auto Wreckers vs. the Lion's Club in PA Day hockey action on Thurs. Dec.3. In a dosely contested game the Wreckers managed to pull out ~~ the victory with a 8-2 score. Whitby Auto Wreckers took an early lead with a goal by Russ Brown assisted by Cameron Vernest. The second Wreckers' goal was fired in by Jon Sanders on assists from Robert Sheehan and Ryan Fraser. With only 8 seconds left in the 2nd period the Lions' Clubs' Matthew Cracknell "popped one in unassisted. Sean Martin of the Lions' tied it up in the third period on a pass from lan Garnétt. Both teams played hard to secure that winning goal late in the 3rd period and the honors went to the Wreckers' Russ Brown assisted by Beau Joliceur. Both goalies, Cary. Cleyndert for the Wreckers and Mike Wadsworth for the Lions' played well for their teams. 9 missed due to a "problem stick" from another forward, according to the dressing room replays. Game three was the basement dwelling Harrison Blazers go on a scoring parade as they humbled the J and D Hawks 8-3. The Hawks got their goals from Bill Van Camp with two and a single from Brian Cowie with assists to Curran, Callery, Olsen, McQuade and Wayne Norton. Nice to see Van Camp ip/Gniform after a leg injury. / Blazers Garry Lance turned in a strong game with two goals and four assists; Willie Edwards fired the hat trick and an assist. Sponsor Dave Harrison grabbed three assists and 'proved to be a strong leader for his team. Single tallies went Kotarba, Suppelsa and Davidson with assists to Davidson, Paul Van Camp, Davis, Suppelsa, Templeman and Lane. This Blazer explosion has the fans wondering if things will change for them in the second half of the season. There was plenty of anticipation leading up to four of the morning and the team didn't disappoint in that regard. Pineridge Phantoms were looking to open a five point lead over' second place Crandells. But the Gamblers refused to go along with that and skated to slim 3-2 victory that cut the Phantom lead to just one point. Merlin still red hot in Blackstock mens curling There's no fodting around on the part of Merlin Suggitt and is red hot, un-defeated team in the Blackstock Mens League. In action last week, he took six out of eight ends and left Gerald Kelly only two ends and two points for a final score of 8- 2. With Cam Porter still on the mend, his vice skip Fred Ford will have to try to best Merlin next week. "Wish me luck," says Ford. On sheet two, Richard Van Camp defeated Porter's rink skipped by Berd.
