The Mini-Mo's took on Lindsay at home on Thursday night and played a strong game to down Lindsay 3-1. Wade Ritchie opened the scoring early in the first period when he walked out from the corner untouched, to put Port Perry ahead 1-0. Kam Cooper did a good job to distract the defenseman in front to allow Wade the room to move. Lindsay tied the score at 1 late in the first period. The score remained that way until Bob Cowie picked up the puck just inside the blue line and gave the Mini-Mo's a 2-1 lead. Grant Hooker got the puck to Wade who carried it until he was poked checked, when Bob took over. Shortly after, Billy Carr gave the team an insurance marker after Mike Dalby kept the puck in at the blue line. Shawn Martin played well in goal and had no chance on Lindsays only goal. The Lindsay player put the puck into the top of the net. Defensemen Joel Thomson and Eric Wygerde had some good rushes to add to the offense. In their first game of the Uxbridge tournament, the team took on Oshawa and played a hard fought game to come away with the win. Again, Port Perry got on the scoreboard early when Billy and Bob kept the puck in the offensive zone and managed to get the puck to Steve Wygerde. Steve deked the defi netted an unassisted effort. Uxbridge's lone goal came early in the third period when a player ped over the blue and put the shot on the ice to the opposite corner of the net. Oshawa struck back with two goals late in the first, and it took the Mini-Mo's until third period to tie it up and take the lead. Joey Van Camp fought hard to keep the puck in and dumped it into the corner where Steve came around the boarde and fed the puck to Billy in front. The go ahead goal came after an Oshawa goal was called back. Again, Kam Cooper kept the puck in the zone which allowed Matt MacMaster to feed Wade who was wide open in front of the net. Wade made no mistake and gave Port Perry the victory. Chris Thompson did a good job, only allowing two of Oshawa's shots to go in, and posted two shutout periods. > On Sunday morning Port Perry took on Uxbridge and came away with a 4-1 victory to send them to the finals. Ther# was no score in the game until early in the second period when Joey made an excellent effort to steal the puck from an Uxbridge player and put the puck into the top shelf to take the lead. 63 seconds later Scott Brownson put the Mini-Mo's up by 2 as he converted a chance after Bob and Scott Cunningham got him the puck. Port Perry struck again only 44 seconds later when Wade line and blasted a slap shot. That one shot marred Shawn Martins efforts to gain the shutout, which he rightly deserved. Port Perry finished off the scoring mid-way through the third when Scott Brownson gave the puck to Scott Cunningham who threw the puck towards the net and it went in off of the goalie. In the championship game Bowmanville popped two fast first period goals before Port Perry got going. Bob opened up the offence when he was left alone on the off side post. Scott Cunningham provided the perfect pass out of the corner and Bob put the puck into the open net. With the score 3-1, Kam brought the Mini-Mo's to within one goal after Matt got the puck to him in a scramble at centre ice. Kam took a shot from just inside the blueline which caught the Bowmanville goalie off guard as the puck went through the five hole. Port Perry came to within one goal again when Billy dumped the puck into Steve in the corner. Steve did the spin-o- ramma pass to Joey who was waiting to bury the puck in the net to make the score 4-3. Port Perry missed chances on a couple of great individual efforts by Joey and Joel. During the second period, Joey made a breakaway and was RUBBER STAMPS MAGNETIC SIGNS * INSTANT PRINTING %* WEDDING CREATIVE DESIGN and LAYOUT * QUALITY PROCESS & COLOUR PRINTING * COMPUTER and CUSTOM BUSINESS FORMS INFN RIO/RE J port parry printing 201 NORTH STREET limited 985-9755 again going to the cookie jar when the Bowmanville goalie robbed him with a great save. Then in the third, Joel had an opportunity to tie the game up when he turned on the magnet in his stick and stickhandled his way through numerous players. Joel had the goalie down and out but the puck slipped from His stick before putting the puck into the net. Bowmanville finished off the score with an open net goal. Sean Jeffrey had his usual strong games on defense making sliding efforts to take away the offensive pressure. John Burnett returned to line up after a three week layoff, (holidays that is) and played like he had never left.
