Citizen -- Tuesday , Februa 2, 1993 = Blackstock curling: emphasis on good fun There seems to be a lot of emphasis on winning these days. Who won what and by how much very often comes out as what life is all about. At the Blackstock Mens Curling League, we often tease each other about how various skips are doing against other skips, but we try to keep the emphasis on having fun. This, however, should not take away from the fact there are some very skilled players on the ice each week. Curling is a game of finesse. Drawing to the button with the last rock in the last end is every skip's dream, and amazingly enough a lot of curlers can do just that. Tweens With only 2 games lift in the season before playoffs begin the Pineridge Tween B girls are fine tuning their skills in preparation for the playoffs. Laura and Emma Russell are first year players and are working very hard and are becoming very important players on our team. Our next game is Saturday, Feb. 6 at Scugog arena when we will host Whitby at 5:30 skill levels is perhaps more important. So, this is a salute to all the players who make up the teams, to those who may not do 80 well and to the most skilled because as a team we all have a lot of fun. And for those who don't curl but would like to start, just show up at the Blackstock Curling rink and we guarantee you will be well received. Two big events are coming up very soon. The Fletcher Bonspiel on February 6 and the Blackstock vs. Port Perry Mens Curling "Challenge" on Feb. 16 with three draws. For more info on either of these events call Fred Ford at 986- 0352. The results in the Blackstock League on Jan. 26 are as follows: Cam Porter defeated Richard Van Camp 13-4 winning' six ends to two; Gerald nipped Merlin Suggitt 6-5, taking five ends to three; and Keith Van Camp defeated Peter Luckhardt 9-5 with five ends to Peter's three. !
