wp Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday , February 2, 1993 Fundraising drive to save historical church A major fund-raising drive is underway to save one of the Scugog Township's finest historic buildings. The Head Church on Scugog Island needs extensive and immediate repairs, said Scugog Historical Society president Paul Arculus at the Society's annual meeting held in the Church last Thursday evening. "The repairs must be done immediately or we'll lose it. We must keep this precious building alive," he said. The church, now part of the Scugog Shores Museum and located just north of the main museum building, was built in 1860. The exterior of the building is virtually un-changed and has been declared an historic building by the Township. Museum Board president Art Richardson told the meeting that an architectural report on the building indicates the roof must be replaced immediately. The stone foundation is sinking and this is causing problems along the wall at the front of the building and at the join between the church and that back tea-room. And eventually, timbers in the attic will have to be * replaced as well. However, both Mr. Richardson and Mr. Arculus stressed that replacing the roof is the number one priority and the work must be done as soon as possible, The Museum this spring and summer will be carrying out fund-raising functions for these repairs and the campaign got a nice start at the annual meeting when Historical Society treasurer Vilma Giannini presented the Museum with a cheque for $5,000. 'Reaching Out" by 's G. O'Riordan SLAB RAVNEN CHAPLI Wage Funeral Home McDIERMOTT RATOROTON I BRN BUR KO 108 BA NN 1 SR RE | Last week | had a gentleman come into the Funeral Home with a concern about the parking downtown, especially when we had a funeral. | decided | should investigate first hand to actually see what parking was available. Within a 2 minute walk from the Funeral Home there are approximately 150 paved parking spaces behind the Post Office and Brock's Department Store, 60 spaces along Queen Street, 30 spaces along Perry Street (north and south), and 50 at the Township Offices, plus our own off-street paved parking lot which will hold 50 cars with a parking attendant on the day of a Funeral. There are more spaces available in the summer because there isn't any snow or snowanks As a member of the Downtown B.I.A. and the Scugog Chamber of Commerce, we are able to offer parking in any of these nearly 350 spaces to the people who are visiting our Funeral Home at Queen and Perry Streets. The majority of Funeral Home visitation is in the evening when most downtown businesses are closed, so there are more than enough available spaces for the largest of funerals. In the 2 1/2 years | have owned the Funeral Home and in consultation with Mr.djarold Wagg, Grant McDermott, and Art Panabaker, | raven to find anyone who couldn't find a parking space within a 2 minute radius of the Funeral Home. In closing, | am proud to say that Downtown Port' Perry has excellent parking facilities, more so than most small towns of similar size.
