After missing out on a trip to the final last weekend in Richmond Hill, the C.N.H. girls were looking for better things in Guelph. The opening game was against little known Mitchel who opened the scoring. ' Leanne Holt evened' the game on a nice pass from Lisa Lafort. Mitchell took a two goal lead before Jennifer Hammond put Port within one. Assisting Melissa Hooker. Then with just 14 seconds left in the period Melissa set up Leanne Holt in the slot and the period ended 8-3. Port took the lead when Jennifer Imrie intercepted a' clearing pass stepped in and drilled one into the back of the net. Mitchell evened the score in short order and the 3 was meaningless. Julia Leamen started Port with an unassisted goal, but the Waterloo phenom, #17 tied the game and period one ended 1-1. Lauren Christie put the Nursing Home team ahead on a nice three way passing play started by Melissa and centred by Lisa Lafort. On their next shift Lisa set up Jennifer Imrie and the three player in rule was proving to be Port's forte. After a line change Alicia Burgess moved the ring to Leanne Holt who found Jennifer Donnelly and the "wringles" girls looked good. With 3 minutes left Waterloo had a goal called back on an obvious twoline pass and the game ended 4-1 in Port's favour. Game 3 was against host Guelph who had suffered two crushing defeats. Despite all efforts including no stop time, changed. From this point to the end it was all Mitchell and Port suffered an 8-4 defeat despite a solid effort by all. The game 2 opponent was Waterloo. A must win or game Port outscored Guelph 20-0. Scoring for Port were Lauren Christie, Jennifer Imrie each with 3. Shooters with 2 were Lisa Lafort, Melissa Hooker and Jennifer Donnelly. This win put Port in the final against Mitchell which as it turns out was a select team. Port never got on track and all were sluggish being outshot 44-6 and out scored 7-0. A good weekend was had by all despite the final game score. Broomball Going down to the last week of play and there's still the question of who will end up in first place in the league. Blackstock currently leads B&R by 2 points but if both teams should end up tied at the end of the regular season B&R would claim the top position due to head to head play where they have beaten Blackstock three times to one loss. Monsma also trajls Woody's by two points in the last 2 playoff positions ahd then there is the top goaltender battle where B&R's Keith Tremblay has a goals against average of 0.94 to Blackstock's Rick McLean with a 0.96 average. In last Sunday's play the Framer's didn't do Woody's any favours as they came out on top of a 2-1 squeaker. It was Woody's who came out first on the score board as they got the opener in the first 2 minutes of the game when Tom Powell assisted on Jim Gregg's goal. It was answered shortly after that when Keith Dalton netted one from Stephen Kristensen. The heartbreaker for Woody's came with just one second left in the first as Terry Black scored unassisted. Game two had M and Dave Canning and Brian Robinson clicked on the first with Robinson getting the second unassisted with 1:04 showing on the clock. Monsma wouldn't die as Down got his second of the game from Nick Attwood, and with only 6 seconds left to play Ron Attwood put the final marker in from Nick. This one ended at 3 each giving both teams an additional point in their standings. The last game of the day saw first place Blackstock move one more point up on B&R as they blanked Emmerson's 4-0. Tom Wotten was in on every goal as he earned 3 assists and a lone goal. Other goal scorers. for the Brewers were Tim Cochrane, Ron Short, and Bill Pratt. Aside from Wotten's assists, Ron Redman earned 3 with Pratt and Dave Dalton getting singles. Rick McLean between the pipes earned his league leading eighth shutout of the season. Next week being the final weekend has B&R hosting Emmerson's, Blackstock and the Framer's hooking up, and Monsma up against Woody's. In the ladies game in Cannington the fourth place B&R hook up in a tight one as they ended regulation time deadlocked at 1-1. The first ended up 1-0 in favour of B&R as they collected a marker from the broom of Dan Taylor, assisted by Steve Durham. In the second Monsma tied it midway through the frame when Ken Lynde set up Murray Down. In the total goals overtime B&R pulled ahead by two as M d the league leading Rookies in their first game of the playoffs with a 2-1 overtime win. The regulation time ended at 0-0 as goaler "T- Bird" Prisciak kept the girls in it for the OT. Port actually built up a 2-0 lead. Joyce Parkinson connected from Janet Joncas on the first one and then Fran Archibald knocked in Carol McInerney's rebound. The Rookies lone goal came with 37 seconds left.
