Zz 283 Scugog Citizen ~ Tuesday , February 23, 1993 Mite rep team getting ready for Spring training Once again this year, Port Perry/8cugog Township will field a team in the York Dufham Fastball League against teams from towns such as Stouffville, Pickering and Richmond Hill. Our local talent pool has represented our area quite well over the years and in fact the Taylor-Ford Mites All-Star team won our divisional All-Ontario Championship in 1981 The 1992 "rep" team also advanced to the provincial championship tournament after a fine season Choosing players for the mites all-star team is usually a very tough task due to the high-level of interest and numbers of aspiring ballplayers but the process itself is usually instructive and rewarding for these young athletes because teaching from experienced coaches occurs in all sessions. Parents of all-star players will realize that there is a need for commitment to practices, games and tournaments. The reward for the more skilled and competitive players, however, is a wealth of high- level ball exposure and devel- opment of "team" concepts and good sportsmanship. Last season our mite players participated in 36 games which is considerably more ball expo sure than available through house-league programs As there has been a restructuring in the OASA age groupings there is a possibility of both "A" and "B® rep teams in the mites division, for the Port Perry Minor Softball Association in the 1993 season As usual both male and female athletes who are registered with the Port Perry Minor Softball Association, are eligible to try out for any of the All-Star teams Likewise, players from any of the Scugog communities are encouraged to try out for the teams Once again this year there will be indoor fastball conditioning and skill-teaching sessions starting in March for players who intend to formally attend the on-field Mites All- Star tryouts to be held in April Previous high-level ball experience is not necessary for tryouts as "all-around" good athletes who are "coachable" often do well in the "teaching first" atmosphere of our Mites development program. Athletes who are interested in perhaps representing Scugog on the Mites Fastball All-Star team and who were born in 1982, 1983, 1984 are invited to indicate their interest by calling 985-9860 PINGrKIge Sports Was Ihe NOS Bnd SpORBOY or 8 Mixed bonemenl ee the Pert Perry oiub on day. And driving a 92 Yamaha V Max 760, Potter had an identical top speed of 99 MPH There were two drivers tied for second with speeds of 97 MPH Wayne Simpeon of West Hill was on board a Polaris Indy Storm and Chris Coutoutlakis of Port Perry drove his Polaris Indy 660 to the same speed There were 30 entries in the competitions held by the Central Ontario Snowmobile Drag Racers Association The flurries and the ice cold temperatures kept spectators away, but close to 200 braved the cold to watch the drivers put their skills and machines The Community Spirit ~~ Minimizing risk of injury Are you making the safety of your players your top priority ?
