my" Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, March 3, 1995-- 11 4 'Agreement reached for cream producers An agreement has been reached on issues relating to the Ontario farm separated cream industry. The agreement was worked out last Friday between the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission, the Ontario Cream Producers Market Board and the Ontario Milk Marketing Board. Cream producers market butterfat and retain the skim milk portion of their product on farm. The cream industry recognizes the need to provide options for producers as a shift in the relative value of milk components will most likely occur on August 1. This is expected to be a shift from butterfat to skim milk component. The key points in the agreement are as follows: 1/ Starting Aug. 1, 1993, cream producers converting to milk production will be able to convert 100 per cent of the cream quota to milk quota. 2/ The Cream quota exchange will remain closed and cream producers will have access to the Milk Marketing Board's Market Sharing Quota (MSQ) quota exchanges, effective August 1. There will be no transfer assessment on cream quota sold on the exchanges for the period Aug. 1, 1993 to July 1, 1994. After that time, the Farm producers unite to form direct marketing Selling Direct - Don't Miss Out! Farm Fresh Producers Unite! At the inaugural meeting held February 22, producers discussed the benefits of having a formal marketing association. Highlighting discussion were ideas such as generic promotion, access to government funding, educational programs, group purchasing, effective lobbying and networking.
