CNH Petites in fine form The Community Nursing Home Petites travelled to Mariposa Wednesday night for a mid-week tune up match. This was the teams chance to recapture the flair that had entertained the parents so well early in the season. Leanne Holt opened the scoring on a hard shot after driving to the net on a pass from Jennifer Donnelly on the first shift of the game. Port continued to pepper the Mariposa goalie with shot after shot only to be rejected. Mid- way through the period Leanne netted her second of the game with a hard shot, this time to the bottom glove side. Realizing that the Mariposa goalie was strong along the ice, Melissa Hooker lifted a shot high into the net after a nice pass from a hard working Jennifer Hammond just before the period ended. Port continued to hound the Mariposa team into the second period not allowing them to control the ring in our own end. When Mariposa did get into the C.N.H. end Alicia Burgess came up with. a big save. Jennifer Imrie, who is playing the three player in rule to its utmost, found the net on a nice drop pass from Jennifer Donnelly making the score 4-0 in Port's favour. In short order Whitby tied the game on a defensive miscue that allowed their SCUGOG YOUTH SOCCER player to whi out from the corner. Less then a minute later Cathy Cooper intercepted a pass in the centre ice area and moved the ring into Jennifer Hammond who found Jennifer Donnelly who lifted it into the back of the net returning the lead to the hosts. Leanne Holt then gave Port a two goal lead and some breathing room when she finished off a good set up by Julia Leamen. The C.N.H. girls continued to work and dominate play. With four minutes to play Jennifer Imrie intercepted an attempt at clearing the ring and drove to the net putting the game out of reach for Whitby. Not making the score sheet, but playing an excellent game were Lauren Christie (after her skates arrived, thanks Mom), Leanne Davison and Lisa Lafort both getting their chances but were unable to convert. Port is now 2 and 0 in the "playoff round robin and with two more wins will be guaranteed a spot in the final. Keep up the hard work and smart play. five penalties to Port, one for tripping when the ref got in the way and was knocked over. Oops!
