Cornish Public School. "Threads," a rather appropriate name, is an extra- curricular activity offered to the Grade 8 Family Studies students as an, additional opportunity to explore and develop creative applications of fabric construction skills. The "Threads" group recently Back row: Jenifer Sheehey, Sunny Galbraith, Thea Demmers, Adrienne Trotter, Hilary Scroggle, Jessie LaRose, Mrs. Parker. Under the supervision of Mrs. Suzanne Parker, the girls began the project last October This talented group presented the finished wall decoration as a gift td the school on Valentine's Day. And with the surplus material the students made a tie for their principal, Mr. Todd and an apron for their VP, Mrs. Fockler. Because of the current time limitations of the Intermediate Family Studies program these students met during lunch hours to work on this project. They also explored more advanced clothing construction techniques, stitching up items for themselves and family members. These students have also been involved in fabric construction projects in various programs and division levels throughout the school. Some of the challenges have "reecyeled been litterless lunch bags, interior decoration and design in the form of library pillows for reading corners, stage draperies and decorative wall applications. Other challenges have been costume preparations for cont and drama prebentationt. all made from clothing and materials, and, of course, the design and construction of their Cornish Cougar mascot. Their next challeage is the upcoming drama production of "Velveteen Rabbit" in May. The design of the map of Canada originated from Magie Relph, who, after emigrating from Britain to Canada, quilted a map wall hanging to celebrate her arrival to her newly adopted country Her design was published in the July 1992 of Canadian Living magazine as a celebration idea for Canada's 1256 celebration. 188ue Singers head west Jazzmerize performed at the Ontario Vocal Festival on Friday March 5, and as a result of a very strong performance they were invited to perform at Musicfest Canada, which takes place in Edmonton from May 12 -16.
