=z wp" 28-- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday , March 16, 1993 Language Festival Students from schools in North Durham were at Cartwright Central PS last Thursday morning for the Oral Language Festival. The students (grades 4-10) presented oral learning in two 'main formats (formal presentations and dramatics) which in turn were divided into numerous sub-groups such as speeches, oral reports, story- telling, recitations, monologues, role nlaying and short dramatic or humourous skits. The basic objective of the Oral Language Festival is to "encourage the development and improvement of oral language in the existing Language Arts and English programs." It also gives students a wonderful chance to observe, listen and compare all the different varieties of oral language in a unique forum outside the regular classroom. The Festival was not a competition, as the emphasis instead was placed on a sharing and exchange of learning experiences. The presentations went on all morning in four different locations .in the school. Cartwright PS principal, Mr. D.
