They really try hard to answer all your What do all anglers have in common? Of course they love fishing. But even much more than that there is a sense of comraderie. Particularly at the Toronto Sportsman Show there is probably the largest collection of anglers in Canada and certainly in Ontario. Some are well known, most are not. But fishing and outdoors draws them all together. During the ten days at the show you meet old friends and make a few new ones. The one thing I can honestly say is that the tales seem to be getting taller but I guess that is the nature of the beast called fisherman. One of the most enjoyable aspects of all the fishing shows is that the weekend angler gets an opportunity to obtain a tip or two or swap stories with other anglers that earn a living in the fishing business Anytime I grabbed a break and wandered around the show there was always somebody asking advice of some sort at the Fish N' Canada booth, the Shimano tions and suggest alternative fishing methods that may be productive for you. One of the most talked about walleye techniques that is sure to catch on in a big way is rip jigging. For Lake Scugog anglers it sure seems to be an alternative and relevant technique. It is a fairly simple approach, in a nut shell, you cast or drift a large weed bed and literally rip a jig through the tangle of weeds. There are specific rip jigs on the market. What to look for if you are looking to purchase this relatively new jig a bullet shaped bucktail with the eye Blue Collar ah {ou KNow, | HAVE A POWERFUL JoB, LOTS OF MONEY, «A BMW, PLENTY OF REAL ESTATE, BUT... The idea behind rip jigging is that you create a quick reflex response from old marble eyes. This technique is going to take some mastering in that your reflexes will have to be equally as quick. On the downside of rip jigging it can be a little tough on the arms and back. In addition a stiff, stout fishing rod is certainly in order. I haven't heard any particular recommendation on a fishing rod but my experiences suggest a heavy action rod is the minimum, a flippin stick or even a light muskie rod may be the way to go. I have heard zero discussion about muskie and rip jigging. However I believe that in Lake Scugog it is a given you will OH You MEAN SOMEONE To SHARE IT WITH? NofNo! CHECK OUT THAT GUY'S ROLEX ! catch a fair few using this technique. I for one had a few jigs misplaced in muskie jaws last year. This year a short tough leader 1s going to proceed all my rip jigs. Tips & Hints: Rainbow trout action is good to excellent on most piers with Bowmanville Creek and the Greenbank River getting the lions share of attention. Give it a try, a big tough tail walking rainbow trout can certainly brighten anyone's day. Many thanks go out to Scugog residents. A number of you dropped by to say hello and a n@mber of you booked charters for some summer trout and salmon action. Once again thanks and 1 look forward to seeing you in the summer if not before.
