Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, April 6, 1993 -- 25 = Belles win 'Silver at Provincials During the Provincials held in Nepean, the Ivory Forest Belles dug in their blades to skate their way through eight gruelling games of ringette. In the first game of the Provincial A Championships, Port Perry got off to a promising start. Taking advantage of some superbly executed passing plays, a variety of well placed shots and solid goaltending by Tracy Pelow, Port skated to a 7-6 win over Caledonia. During the following skirmish with London, Port seemed to be plagued with problems, including a head injury to Val Payne, who was taken to the hospital and later released. Port staged a come-back in the second period and rattled the mesh with five goals. However, in spite of their valiant effort Port ended the game trailing by 2. In the third game Port suffered through another frustrating game against the host team of Nepean. Port sagged through a temporary slump as they struggled through the two periods. Tracy Pelow and Jen Savage shared the goaltending duties as the Ivory Forest Belles slugged to a 7-6 defeat. In the following game, Port picked up the pace to storm the unsuspecting Sudbury team, Tracy Pelow played a superb game patrolling the crease, stopping 21 of the Sudbury's 25 shots. A rousing display of team co- operation by the forward lines and dazzling defence, led by an energized Michelle Fitzpatrick, resulted in a 6-4 Port Perry win. Facing off against West Ferris, we once again experienced trouble controlling the ring. Tracy and Jen Savage "shared the net minding duties as they stood up to a bargage of shots from a rolling tide of North Bay offence. As Kate Ellis was taken from the ice in an ambulance the game was callede with 12 minutes remaining. The score stood 11- 4 in Wet Ferris' favour. Next, Gloucester faced off against a rejuvenated, high spina ar Perry team. In the defensive end, Kim Poppletan, Michelle Fitzpatrick and Leea Kinnuneh put in fine performances, as well as Tracy Pelow who defended the net admirably. With 3 minutes remaining the score read 5-5. Karen Kett .Amy Parlidment, Val Payne and Terri Klyne took their positions on the ice and tore up the ice to blast in Port's sixth goal. Port maintained ring control for the remainder of the game to insure their win.
