Tickets at Proud to wear Canada medals Two members of Port Perry Legion Branch 419 are receiving a Commemorative Medal in honour of Canada's 126th anniversary. Ed Mason was nominated by the Branch and received his medal from Ontario Lt. Governor Harold Jackman at a ceremony in Bowmanville last month. Bob Douglas was nominated through the National Council of Veterans Associations-and -he'll travel to Ottawa May 16 to receive his medal. Both are proud to receive this medal which honours individuals for service to the community and their country. "Was I surprised to receive this? Sure, anybody would be surprised. You could have knocked me over with a feather," said Mr. Mason. He served his country for six long years during World War 2 as a Tank commander with the Canada 125 medals. See story. Mr. Douglas joined the Army in 1944 (as a teen-ager) and spent the next 22 years as an MP sesing service in France, Germany, Japan, Korea and with Canadian peacekeepers in the Gaza, Lebanon and Israel. He retired in 1968 and became active in several Legion branches in western Canada before moving to Port Perry six years ago. Mr. Douglas has held several chair for the Poppy Campaign. "I really enjoy the work with the Legion and I'm very proud of the work this Branch does in the community," he told the Citizen.
