Lone robber hits bank in Uxbridge Durham Police are looking for a lone male who got away with cash after a robbery at the Bank of Commerce in Uxbridge Monday afternoon The man is described as white, with hair over his shoulders. He was wearing a baseball cap and black leather Jacket. A police spokesman said the robbery took place just before 3:00 PM when a man walked into the bank at the corner of Brock and Toronto Street and pushed a note at a teller demanding money. He told the teller he was armed, however no weapon was seen. After getting what police called a small amount of cash, the man was last seen fleeing the area on foot. Angels knit away From page four Gord Parkins ana O'Connor, the pharmacists at Guardian Drugs in Port Perry, feel it's a terrific program Some knitters are bothered by arthritis and the knitting is good therapy for them, both mentally and physically. For others, it's given them a whole new purpose in life. Gord's mother was a great supporter of the Guardian Angels program, knitting many outfits. Even when she was in the hospital with cancer, she knit constantly knowing she was helping a little person start a better beginning in life. Each knitter is asked to fill out a card so Guardian can acknowledge their Guardian Angel and keep the knitters updated in any changes to the program Gwen says "there was a drop off in the number of knitted articles since Christmas but Dora WIN TS pala feels it's probably because many knitters have gone south for the winter. Now that Spring is here the outfits will likely increase again. Every four months or so a shipment of knitted goods is sent in. Some are basic outfits but often someone will add an extra touch, such as an embroidered bow or nosegay to the little girls' bonnets and mittens. But it isn't just the local people that support the program. Gwen says, "one lady from Spanish (near Sudbury) dropped off some knitting. Tourists in town visiting friends or relatives have read about the program while they're in the store and begin to knit for these babies." If you're interested in assisting this worthwhile program, than stop in to any Guardian Drugs store and read about how you can be a Guardian Angel.
