Port Perry The annual 1st Port Perry Boy & One banquet was held May 8 at the Port Perry High School. The head table guests included Mayor Howard Hall and his grandson James Donaldson, Legion Branch 419 representative Doug Butt, Carl Steward representing the groups sponsor Church of the Ascension, District Commissioner Ross Taylor, District President David Woods, District Secretary Anne Allen. They were introduced by Ellen Greenough, the Group's Chairperson. Doug Butt brought greetings from the Legion and Carl Steward complimented the group on their growth in the six years the church has sponsored the group. Greetings were also extended by 'District President David Woods and by District Commissioner Ross Taylor who also presented a five year service award to Karen Sanders and Warrant of Appointments to Donna Thomson and Ephraim Dufoe for taking their Woodbadge Training and being a leader for three years. The Cub leaders presented trophies that boys had won from the Kub Kar races to Matthew Rankin and Burke Thomson, 1st in speed; Marshall Irwin and Matthew Vaughan 1st design; Boy Only Design Justin Killingbeck and Neil King, Burke Thomsen and Devon Howsam for Best Paint. The Lake Ridge Regional Kub Kar Rally for Cubs from six different districts was held "The Did Your Best" trophy, was won by Steven Williams and Bryan Tighe. For the second year in a row the Bike Rodeo Trophy was won by Lyle Dufoe. Cub of the Year plaque will be shared by Greg Manns and Matthew Rankin. Certificates of congratulations were awarded by Kim King to Burke Thomson, Joseph Farquharson, Matthew Rankin, Don Beelby, Devon Howsam, Justin Killingbeck, Greg Manns and Neil King who had earlier participated in the Lake Ridge Kub Kar Races at Scugog Arena. Scout leader Larry Emmerson gave a brief description of what the Scout recently at the Scugog Arena. Robbie Adams of Oshawa won for the Best Design (boy and parent) and Ryan Chelbak of Ajax won for the Top Speed. Service pins were presented to Jennifer Donaldson, Scott Bowers, Cheryl Dufoe, Leslie Rideout, Marlene McKay 1 year; Tim Wansborough, Sharon Britt, Joyce Alarcon, Aileen Hill for 2 year; Don Foster, Elgin Knopp, Donna Thomson, Don Farquharson, Carolyn Beelby, Ephraim Dufoe 3 year; Michael Coxon, Chuck Mercier, Brenda Manns, Greg Sanders and Gerrit Versluys 4 years. Other leaders mentioned were Larry Emmerson 4 1/4 years, Kim King, Lloyd Greenough 6 years and Gord Mercier 13 years. A token of appreciation was given to Jay Geekie and Allen Birchall who have been Scouter in Trainingkhis year. All the Beavers received a Beaver Pin for helping take care of the world tnd Justin Killingbeck and Burke Thomson were ayarded a Keeo crest for helping the Beaver Leaders. "The Arthur Daines Memorial Plaque" to be awarded to people for exemplifying service beyond what is expected to them to Scouting was given to Ray Rankin, Elgin Knopp, Julie Williams and Lloyd Greenough. Gift certificates of appreciation were given to Larry Emmerson and Doug Morden and their wives. Gord Mercer said grace and a delicious roast beef dinner supplied by the Meating Place served by the mothers was enjoyed by all. Neil CRAFT SUPPLIES from Krazy KRrarFT TO Cubs end year with banquet Ellen Greenough thanked all the leaders and the group committee especially Julie Williams, Wendi Sinclair, Karen: Simpson and Doug Morden as well as Heinz Blum who supplied us with our Christmas Trees. Next year's registration will take place June 7 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension Hall. Codgar of the Week The R.H. Cornish Cougar of the Week is Brooke Holtby. Brooke was a great help to the production of the Velveteen Rabbit, by filling in, first as a prompter then quickly learning the routines and music as a member of the cast. She is a valued member of the Welcoming Crew and the Free Spirit choir. In class she is hard working, and has spent considerable time at home practising skills, especially in mathematics. This combined with a positive attitude, has resulted in excellent improvement in many areas. She is a willing and cheerful student. Well done Brooke!
