Instead, tons of coloured paper and balloons covered the walls and ceiling. Is it a New Years Eve party in May? No, it's the At-Home at Port Perry High School. On May 14, the day of the prom, students were still scurrying around the school's two -gyms adding the final touches to the prom's Las Vegas theme. A member of the At-Home ° committee Shannon Gustar, said the planning for the occasion started last May and the making of the decorations began in October. "Itgtakes a lot of work," said Shannon. "But it has been great fun. We've worked very hard to make it exciting and not just a dance. It's like a real Las Vegas." Every person who comes to the dance will receive $1,000 in funny money to gamble with at the many games in the Casino. People can also ude their money to purchase a prize at the auction. "Downtown merchants donated all the prizes we will be auctioning off," said Shannon. "They have been a great help, and we're very grateful." Along with gambling, will be lots of entertainment. The supervisor of the prom Mr. Cutler, will be performing with his band, and Elvis the DJ and 'is wife, The Travelling Wilburs, wil] put on a show. Ms. Stevenson, a teacher at the school, will also do a lip synch.of Reba McEntire. And for anyone wanting to try their luck at fame, they can join in with the Karaoke. Also, the school's gym teachers will put , on a Chip and Dale Show. "We want it to be non-stop action, just like what happens in Las Vegas," said Shannon." Even though the expenses for the event are high, Melissa said she is going to keep her costs down. She will wear a dress she bought two years ago, and will do her own hair to agve money, "It will just be as much fun even though I don't have a new dress," she said. "The only expense | have is buying a boutonniere for my boyfriend." The only thing Melissa will spénd a lot on, i her tile preparing for the night. "I have to do my hair first," said Melissa. "I'm giving , myself two hours. Then I'll do my make-up and my dress goes on last."
