Everyone on the ball club has suddenly caught fire at the plate and this week saw two more high scoring Gambler efforts as they strengthened their league lead to a 16-3-0 record. The Greenbank squad has outscored their rivals in the last four games by a 35-3 margin which is contrary to the usual Gambler winning formula of pitching and defense. However coaches Ken Goreski and Don Phinney were all smiles as the team wae collecting all the hits and runs. Mark Goreski and Jim Chilvers were expected to give the Gamblers excellent pitching but they have contributed in a major way to the Greenbank attack this year and have belted a total of thirteen round trippers between them, with 36 runs batted. Chilvers added 3 home runs the past week as he deposited 3 balls into Lake Scugog (or vicinity). Tuesday night in Port Perry Scugog Angels win 7-2 The Scugog Angels went into Cobourg last Tuesday night and put on a real push in the opening inning by scoring five runs. They also demonstrated why they were the bronze medal winners in Owen Sound. Michelle Durkin started things off with a single. Laurie Dudge®n followed, along with Gina Spence with singles as well. Gina added an RBI to her credit and Nancy McConnell added a single. Sue Pipher then drove in a run with a single to left. Perfect Heating won 15-3. The Heaters pitchers Joel Thompson and Matt Sturgess did their usual great job on the mound. They also both hit two for three. Jason Cooper and Mike Phoenix bats were also working well as they both hit a three run home run. Robert Moore showed a big improvement with his offense going three for three, one of which was a dropped ball on his third strike. Way to go Robert. Defensively, Ben Frith and Travis Howell played great along with Travis MacSween who made a nice double play on third and who also hit three for three. Pineridge Sports catcher Patrick McKernan did a great job behind the plate keeping everything in front of him. Jason Lown played a good game on the mound. Fans and coaches couldn't help but, notice the way Justin Mckernan did a super job on Short. Adam Murphy, B.J.Smith, Ted Mackey and Brent Simpson all hit two for two and Mark Delaney hit two for three including a two run Home Run. ended. Cobourg scored on a single and sacrifice to advance the runner, before Traci Harris hit a double to left centre. Score after one inning 5-1 Scugog. Michelle Durkin singled again to start the second inning followed by a sacrifice single. Gina Spence wasted little time adding two more runs on a triple to deep left field, and this was all the Angels needed as they went on the defeat Cobourg 7-2. Cobourg's only other run came in the second inning on Rousseau's single before Brenda Ashby tripled. Michelle Durkin, Laurie Dudgeon, Gina Spence all had three hits each. Nancy McConnell had two hits with Jane Thornton and Susan Pipher adding singles. Gina added three RBI's, and Jane Thornton contributed two RBI's as well. Jane Thornton pitched a five hitter and had five strikeouts. Jane's record is now 8 wins, 5 losses over the . Other Port Perry Merchant hits went to Jason McBride, Steve Laird and Chad Venning. Thursday night again at the Port Perry lakefront diamond the Gamblers and Antrim House went into the sixth inning in a tight 1-0 contest when again Greenbank came a booming; home run and then Paul Goreski belted another drive into the lake and Greenbank had a 5-0 lead Jim Chilvers tossed six innings of no-hit ball at the Antrim and coach Ken Goreski finished off the seventh inning. The Gamblers collected 12 hits off the combined offerings of John Annis and Lawrie Williams This coming weekend sees Greenbank at Ottawa at the All Ontario Senior- Intermediate Eliminations and if the team continues their strong hitting along with their good pitching and defense; the Gamblers have a legitimate shot at representing Ontario at Nova Scotia in September This Thursday (July 29) sees Stouffville at Greenbank Park for a date with the Gamblers at 8:00 p.m.. up with a home run to left centre field.
