Council wants response From page one nine full time employees who are outside the CUPE Local. The fact that this plan was ratified prior to the August 1 deadline means Scugog will get a 20 per cent "bonus" in the amount of money it must trim from the budget. " Administrator Earl Cuddie told council that with the 20 per cent "bonus," it looks like Scugog will have to lop about $80,000 out of this year's budget. Unfortunately, when the council set its*budget this spring, there was absolutely "np fat," which is making it tough to cut now without seriously impacting on services and employee salaries. One: area that got considerable digcussion in Ménday's meeting was waving of overtime for such things as snow plowing and sanding. It was even suggested that plows and sanders might not start moging snow until Monday mornings after a weekend storm. Council expressed concern that outside employees may get hit with a double whammy: the loss of overtime which many count as part of their income and the loss of up to 12 days pay for those who earn over $30,000 per year. And there was concern for the impact on work reduction for five employees who earn $30,250. Finance committee chairman Yvonne Christie said "the (budget) cuts we have to make have to be felt by those we represent. The general public must be made aware that things are not the same as they were in Scugog Township." Ward 1 rep Ken Carruthers said one option would be simply to close Township offices on Fridays at 1:00 PM. The provipcial _ Social Contract calls for 12 un-paid days off for employees earning over $30,000 per year. Council hopes that number can be reduced by savings in other areas to reach the $80,000 budget reduction. All the Township's full time staff make over $30,000 per gear. If they all took 12 un- paid days le per yer, it would redyge, payroll by $57,500. Last, yeh overtime for T hip to about $80, 000. : NEATING PLACE [EIVNE1 81 OF DINE Ni £4 03 Off PORT PE RRY A dozen White Do 0 You Remember When Fo DINNER ROLLS wer Well, this week thoy are again 985-2 3 sing, or Whole Wheat 49¢ at the Meating Place!
