Mayor Hall also scoffed at any suggestion council is being "obstructionist," adding Mr. Cornacchia'y problems now may be his own doing. "He has not done what council has asked," said the Mayor. The Erin's Leigh project has been in front of the council in one shape or another for seven years. The latest plans call for a 95,000 square foot shopping centre and 120 condominium units on land on the north side of Highway 7A just east of Water Street. Mr. Cornacchia said the total cost of the mega-project is about $30 million and once complete will generate 130 full time jobs and 150 part time. It will generate close to $1 - million in taxes and fees in the first year, he said. He said the financing for the project is in place and he would like to start breaking ground by the end of the year. Councillor Pearce said that is out of the question as there are too many details stil] to be worked out between the Township and the developer. She mentioned such things as the traffic signals at the ~ entrance onto Highway 7A, the amounts of performance bonds the Township will demand, and the fact the project needs several zoning amendments of HEALTH FOODS Herbally Yours WE OFFER A LARGE VARIETY OF PRODUCTS for a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE Colleen & Twyla welcome you to 'Herbally Yours' "THE HEALTHY GENERAL STORE" 143 PERRY ST., PORT PERRY 985-0861 (beside Kelletts Variety) YO PRODUCTS TODAY is 's peace. its unity Is firmly established." It's no secret that some members of council would have preferred to see the land developed for hotel/motel complex. Mr. Cornacchia said a hotel/motel on that site would not be financially viable. "There is no financing available for that," he said. Along with a commitment from A&P to put a new food store in the centre, the plans call for a McDonald's Restaurant and Tim Horton Do-Nut shop. Mr. Cornacchia said he is also negotiating now for a "junior department store." Mayor Hall said that if Mr. Cornacchia had 'done everything council asked for a year ago, the project "would be flying by now." ; The resolution passed last Tuesday supports the project in principle, but only if the developer meets all the conditions and requirements set out by the municipality. sing Sun THURSDAY - Carload $10.00 FRI, SAT, SUN, TUES, Re in Seattle, Une of Fire 'HALF BACK' Buy 2- Get 1 FREE Pass est. 1982
