See story at right. taking part in this first ever exhibition, said Don Ayotte who is organizing this as part of the Scugog Snow Flake Festival January 15 and 16. The artists are W. B. Fraser of Brooklin, Bernard Hengst, Bill OBrien, Ross Navarro and Tyler Briley of Port Perry. Navarro is considered one of Canada's premier ice carvers and is a frequent award winner at carving éompetitions. Local a: Bill Lishman will be 'on hand to present appreciation awards 'to all the artists. The artists will be working from blocks of ice that weigh up to 500 pounds, and the finished pieces will be placed on rotating stands with built-in lights. The artists are to be begin work on thei*pieces on Friday, Jan. 14 in Palmer Park and must have them complete by the following day. Mr. Ayotte said the public is more than welcome to watch the artists at work and to view the finished pieces the next day. He said this ice sculpting exhibition would not be possible without generous contributions by 14 local businesses. Region set for big celebrations The opening ceremonies for a year-long festival of cultural and sporting events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Region of Durham will take place at 2:00 PM January 9 at Eastdale ollegiate, 265 Harmony Road orth in Oshawa. - This program will officially kick off the year long festival which will have more than 360 events throughout the Region.
