'Bobbi' making a real name for herself by Heather McCrae As a young boy Keith Goble grew up on a beef farm in Tyrone and always dreamed he would one day have his own beef tion and own a ch animal. Last November that dream became a reality when his yearling heifer, Land O Lakes Bobbi, won in her class and was also named Grand Champion Charolais Heifer at The Royal The 8th Annual CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL FARM EQUIPMENT Stow Winter Fair. Two Weeks later, Bobbi proved her stuff again as, in a class of sixteen animals, she was the winner in the Senior Yearling Heifer Class and, with Bob Goble "19938 Agribition show in Regina, winning enough prize money to pay for her trip out there, and then some! And as for the show out West, he chuckles when he says "I just had a good feeling she might do well and I was right. | thought it was time the boys out West had a good look at her!" Another piece of good news was received two weeks ago when Goble learned their prized animal was named the Charolais Show Heifer of 1993. But Bobbi's fame wasn't just at these two prestigious shows. She proved to be a winner time and time again as she emerged Grand Champion at every fair. In fifteen Open Classes the yearling heifer was beaten only once, and that was by her 'sunt', BSG Lady Rachelle, from Southview Farms in Courtice. The history of Land O Lakes Bobbi is an interesting one. Goble once sold her mother, Patricia, as a yearling to Land O Lakes Charolais, only to have himself and his fifteen year old neighbour, Scott Nesbitt, buy her back later as a cow with her calf, and that calf became their new champion. Last year Patricia had a bull calf, Dempsey. Scott's younger brother, Ryan, proudly owns a few shares in the calf and showed the little bull at Blackstock Fair in 1993, winning Junior Showmes in the pre 4-H class. Scott's sister, Lisa, and Jeremy and Jason Malcolm, neighbors of the Gdble's are all becoming involved in 4-H, showing the Goble cattle, something all the families are Those were the days when Goble owned his own livestock trucking business. It got to be a regular routine during shaw season to hook the house trailer behind the cattle truck and head out to the fairs every weekend. But Brian, who is now employed with Pine Ridge Packers, had to quit the show circuit due to severe allergies. 'While being herdsman at Hunts Farms in Kettleby, Bob is still associated with the family's cattle and is also a beef cattle fitter throughout the US and many provinces. In the late eighties Goble had to quit trucking due to health reasons and now enjoys being at home with his 25 head of cattle, geese and two belgians, Max and Mindy. Keith Goble is known all over Ontario for his quality charolais breeding. Looking around the family's comfortable farmhouse you see countless trophies, ribbons, plaques and banners. 's always someone coming in to buy breeding stock" says Goble. On February 4, Land O Lakes Bobbi will give Keith Goble and Scott Nesbitt one more final sensation.
