The Bowmanville Eagles came swarming back on home ice Sunday night with a 9-4 victory over the Port Perry MoJacks, and the best of seven Central Junior C championship series stands at two games to one in favour of the MoJacks. Eagle sniper Curtis Hodgins was a one-man wrecking crew in Sunday's games as he fired four straight goals and helped set up another to give his team a commanding 5-1 lead after 20 minutes. Kevin MacDonald got the lone marker in the first for the MoJacks on the power play with help from Clair Cornish and Shannon Todd Eagles didn't let up in the middle frame and scored a couple of quick ones to take a 7- 1 lead and put the contest out of reach, Emotions were running high in this game and just before the mid-point in the second tempers exploded in a wild melee at the players benches that held up the game 20 minutes as referee Gus Bambridge sorted out a hast of fighting and game misconduct players. The brawl appeared to have been touched off when MoJack scoring ace Shannon Todd got hauled into the Bowmanville bench. As players rushed to his rescue, at least three scraps were underway on the ice and there was a lot of pushing and shoving on both benches. At one point MoJack assistant coaches Chic Carnegie and lan Cooper were in the thick of the melee with Cooper putting a headlock on Eagle back-up goalie Drew Campbell. At one point, even the rink attendants were in the middle of things trying to restore order. Cooper and Eagle head coach Mark Watson got the heave by Bambridge as did Laird, Todd, Ross, Moase, and Gavin Cochrane for the MoJacks. For the Eagles, Armstrong, Warriner, Pollard, Campbell, Pate, Flintoff and Hodgins got an early trip to the showers. When play finally resumed, Eagles popped two more to run the score to 9-1 before the MoJacks finally showed signs of a pulse as Jason Cochrane netted a pair. Bill Mercer got a pair with singles to Keith Leslie and Cornish. Eagle marksmen were Gary Adams with two and Dave Stockton with the single. Hutchinson was superb in this one, making numerous tough stops especially late'in the game when Eagles worked hard to get the tying goal. They had a great chance with just seconds on the clock, breaking in three on the goalie but the puck rolled harmlessly by Hutchinson into the corner. Unlike Sunday's penalty filled contest, the players stuck to hockey with just eight minors to the Eagles and nine to the MoJacks. SLAPSHOTS: Head coach Brad Menzies summed up Sunday night's game in a few words. "We just got cat-worked tonight and because they (Eagles) worked harder they got the breaks," a reference to a couple of early goals that came off deflections. Menzies said the MoJacks will have to work much harder when the series resumes this Wednesday night in Port Perry at 8:00 PM. Game five is back in Bowmanville Thursday night at 7:30 PM. Game six is Saturday in Port Perry at 7:45 and the seventh if needed is Sunday in Bowmanville at 7:30. Menzies said he's not sure who will get the nod in goal for Wednesday night's game.
