CALLBACKS : JUNE 23rd Council seeks to create lots to help pay for park up-grades Scugog Township wants to re- zone a 3.4 acre parcel of vacant land in Blackstock to create three buildings lots for single family homes. : But some residents living near the parcel at the corner of "Greensboro Drive and Old Scugog Street want it left as open space. They expressed their sentiments at a public meeting in the council chambers Monday afternoon. One young boy told council this is where neighbourhood children play. Because of the TR TO TH TTT Ire Blood Donor Clinic distance to the park at the Fairgrounds, he would not be allowed to play there. The vacant parcel has been declared "surplus to Township park needs," and if council goes ahead with a re-zoning for three building lots, proceeds from the sale of the lots would be used by Scugog to help pay for improvements to the Recreation Centre, the Fairgrounds in Blackstock and a nearby park. Township administrator Earl Cuddie told Monday's meeting, the vacant parcel now has a serious drainage problem that must be corrected if the land is sold or kept as open space. Roads superintendent Ronn MacDonald said correcting the drainage problems will require an easement over private property on the east side of Old Scugog Street to take water t§ the northeast. A decision on whether to're- zone the parcel and proceed with the sale of the three ' building lots is expected to be made by council in the next couple of weeks. "We (council) need to sell the lots and put the money towards the improvements af. the Fairgrounds and the Recreation Centre," said parks committee chairman and Ward 2 rep Marilyn Pearce.
