The Juvenile Merchants had a positive week with a win and a tie in the Oshawa and District Men's League play. On Tuesday, Port met Bowmanville who put up surprising power with their snazzy new uniforms, especiall but.at the top of the fifth, the Merchants' bats came alive. McBride on with a walk,-and two singles by Laird and Moase loaded the bases.Tim Timms proceeded to hit a two RBI - double and also scored on an RBI double by Cochrane to go ahead 3-2. Antrim tied the score in the fifth and the game remained at 3-3 going into overtime. A beautiful pick-up out, of the dirt J Roger McIntosh the shortstop who hit two home runs to drive in all seven runs. The game was 2-0 for the Merchants when McIntosh hit his first home run to put Bowmanville ahead 4-2. In the third a the fourth, the Merchants"were able to cross the plate four times for a comfortable 8-4 lead. Again in the fifth, McIntosh hit his second home run to close the gap to an 8.7 score. Fortunately, pitcher Jeff Card hit a home run of his own to score two runs, giving a little breathing room. The final scoré was 10-7 for the Port Juvenile Merchants. Card pitched the full game with 7 strikeouts, 4 walks, 5 hits, and allowed, believe it or not, only one earned run. It is always a crowd pleaser when the two Port teams, the Juvenile Merchants and the Antrim House Seniors meet. Thursday night was one of these games on a beautiful night at the lake with a good supporting crowd for both teams. ' The first inning was not a typical start for the Merchants when an infield out turned into a comedy of errors scoring Antrim's first run. The next batter got on with a walk, followed by Pilkey's long fly ball to the fence (with the bat) was caught by McBride and the Merchants when proceeded to get the next two outs and settled down to play a good game. Antrim scored another run in the fourth to go ahead 2-0 by first b Empringh got the third out in the bottom of the seventh and prevented the runner from scoring. # After an inning of overtime, the game remained a 3-3 tie. Chad Venning pitched a strong eight innings with 3 strikeouts, 4 walks, 3 hits and only one earned run. The Merchants first game is Friday, July 8 against Fergus on Diamond § (Woodview). If the Merchants win, the next game would be Friday at 9 PM at Diamond 1 (Durham Fields). If game one is a loss, the next game would be Saturday at 8 AM on Diamond 6 (McLaughlin). There will be some excellent fastball played on this weekend, and all ball fans should mark their calendar for a tournament not to be missed. Racing at Mosport The weekend of July 9th and 10th at Mosport International Speedway will be awesome as some of the most spectacular competition comes together for an action packed doubleheader, racing extravaganza. The regular weekly stock car divisions (including Late Model Sportsman, Street Stock, Thundercars and A.C.T. Late Models), will play host as the ISMA Suppermodifieds (Who will do battle at Oswego Speedway on Saturday evening) Model Division, a 100 Lap Special that guarantees start money. to thé winner for the July 15 & 16 Oxford 250. The Oxford 250 is one of ACT's most prestigious and richest events of the season. And if that's not enough, to add more spice to the hotly contested regular weekly racing battles, all divisions will be running in the Mid Summer Championship for Longer Races, Higher Purses, and Double Points. The racing will make their only Canadian Visit to this facility on Sunday. These open wheel, methanol burning, 1200 Horsepower, heart stopping, incredibly fast machines are indeed the fastest cars on the speedway. Also on the schedule this weekend is the Oxford 260 Qualifier for the ACT Late doubtedly be sp lar! Satuyday, the gates open at 5:30P and racing gets underway at 6:30PM.
