"Children change so quickly," she told the Citizen in a recent interview. Capturing a child or an entire family on film is much more than just pointing a camera, clicking the shutter and hoping for the best. That's 'why Charlotte goes to great lengths to make sure her subjects are relaxed long before she points a camera in their direction. "I think it's important to take the time to really get to know my subjects," she explained. She much prefers to take family portraits in the home of the family as people are more relaxed in their own surroundings, especially young children. Over the last couple of months, her portraits have earned her recognition. One, a delightful black and white of a four-year old flower girl at a wedding, won first in the Festival Days competition for members of the local Photo Club. A second portrait, also in black and white, is of her five year old son Tom posed with an absolutely marvellous look of child-like innocence and mischief on his face. She entered this one in a competition through Photo Life magazine and was very pleased when it reached the finals. Charlotte, who operates her own photo studio called "Big Shots," has had a life long interest in photography. But she began to take it seriously (and commercially) after attending Durham College where she took several courses. Shooting almost exclusively in black and white, she has her own dark room for film developing, prints and enlargerfents. Charlotte is the official photographer for the Borelians amateur theatre group in Port Perry. And when she's not behind the camera, so to speak, she is on stage. Last year, in her first ever stage performance, she played the difficult role of Stella in "A Streetcar Name Desire." And right now, she is busy with rehearsalesfor her part as Ellen in "Shadow Walkers," which the Borelians will stage at Town Hall 1873 at the end of October.' Photographer Charlotte Hale (that's her far right) used an automatic shutter for this Impromtu portralt of herself and her five sisters.
