Wi Scugog Township moving ahead with plans to construct a ity hall money. The 5400 square foot hall was built in 1978 and is this year at the Scugog Arena, many people are wondering whether it will operate at a profit or at least break-even. To get some idea of how large community halls operate, the Citizen last week the « manager of the hall that is part of the Uxbridge Arena. He said it does not make money. In fact, it is losing li d for 435 people. * The total rental rate for an evening is $489 which is broken down*this way: $366 for the hall, $25 for GST; $37 for use of the kitchen; and $61 in royalties if any kind of music is played during the rentgl period. Hiringrcaterers and bartenders are additional costs. There are other hourly rates for event in non-alcoholic or if the group is also renting the ice at- the Arena. The Uxbridge Hall is operated by the Arena Board which 'submits reports to the municipal council. The manager is responsible for ice e hall available if the , into'smaller section. Ironically, he said some potential users for larg weddings are opting to ho their dinner/dance at golf courses in the Uxbridge area, dpcause they feel the community hall is not "dressy enough" for stich an occasion. It is expected that construction of the 450 seat hall at the Scugog Arena will start this fall. Not only will it be for banquets, it is being © designed for numerous uses including floor hockey, fitness classes and small business or other meetings.' The cost of the hall, including a parking lot for 100 cars is slightly over $1 million.
