If it has too many knots or a moisture content higher than ten per cent, he sends it back. The company now has 12 full time employees and Bob said sales are moving upwards to the point where Traditional Woodworking is now among the top three in Ontario. Like most independent business success stories, this one started modestly 20 years ago when Bob was working in sales for a transport company, and in his own words "hating it." With no background at all in woodworking or fine furniture, a friend got him started and he was soon selling at the Pickering Flea Market. The business slowly expanded. Bob moved to Scugog Island in 1984 and six years ago bought Bobcat Utica Farm Equipment Ltd has been named a dealership for the BOBCAT loader, according to Doug Freitag, North American sales manager for the Melroe Company, Fargo, N.D. Located at 620 Durham Road 21, the new dealership is authorized to provide sales and service for Melroe's line of ekid- steer loaders in the local trade area. He built the 7200 square foot showroom/factory and has never looked back. Even during the recession in the early 1990's when many furniture manufacturers in Ontario went under, sales at Traditional Woodworking continued to increase each year. Asked how business is these days, Bob's answer was short and to the point: "We are very busy." About 60 per cent of sales are retail direct to customers and the remainder are wholesale to stores, he said. As for the future, there is no reason why this local success story won't continue to grow, especially now that the "best kept secret in Port Perry" is getting out of the bag. dealer Utica Farm Equipment Ltd will welcome all existing Bobcat equipment owners for parts and service needs and looks forward to new sales opportunities. Melroe Company introduced the original BOBCAT, with its unique skid-steer drive system, to the front-end loader industry more than three decades ago. Today Melroe is recognized worldwide as the leading producer of small loaders, both articulating and skid-steer, as well as excavators. ~~ BLACKWATER | - DRESSED MEATS Pork & 705-357-3381 1d 13 R Durban
