- Scugog may soon get Township-wide garbage pick-up Scugog Township will soon have Township-wide garbage collection. Most councillors said Monday they like the idea of Township- wide collection, but final approval will not come until October 27 to give councillors a chance to determine how the charge will be paid by ratepayers. Currently, those ratepayers with municipal collection pay through the assessment. That may be changed to a flat per household fee that would amount to about $45 per year. "Paying by assessment is not fair because it assumes that people living in large houses create more garbage than those » in small houses," said Ward 2 rep Marilyn Pearce. Area councillor Harvey Graham agreed, and said he would support the expanded collection only if the payment was the same for all households. Ward 4 rep David Dietlein, ngting that if the Township adopts full collection, it also means full Township blue box pick-ups. He expressed concern that the Cartwright Transfer Station might be cloged or the hours of service cut back. Council approved a new five- year contract for Township-wide collection of garbage that will cost $287,873 annually. The contract which starts Jan. 1 was the lowest bid of six that ranged to a high of $442,000. Scugog collects garbage now at bout 5,000 households and Moving toa I Township collection would add about 2,000 more stops.
