Not pi Karen pk Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, November 8, 1994 --19 Pearce seeks third straight term as Ward 2 councillor Seeking re-election in Ward 2 after two consecutive terms on council Marilyn Pearce told a ward candidates meeting last week at the Latcham Centre the most important issue facing Scugog is "the investment in the community." This investment, she said, will take the form of money, new jobs, homes and businesses. "We have a great future going for us in Scugog," she said, adding the community must work together "to protect and enhance what we have." Mrs. Pearce is being challenged by Jim Grosvenor, a long time resident of the Scugog seeking election to Scugog council for the first time. Mrs. Pearce said she favours an long term extension of the lease, but wants an escape clause agreeable to both sides that would only be invoked if the grounds are ever sold with the Township moving the Fair to another location. She favours construction, of the multi-purpose facility at the Scugog Arena, stressing that it will be used by a large number of people from youths to seniors. "This is a complete complex very important to the community," she said, pledging that wherever possible, local firms will be invited to tender on the project and "it will come in on budget, I can assure you of that." Mr. Grosvenor said he is opposed to the new facility because "it's being built in the wrong place. It's just wrong," he said. Commenting on taxes, Mr. Grosvenor said Scugog can maintain services, but he warned of increases at the Regional and/or school board levels.
