mp Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, November 15, 1994 --13 _4& PPHS prepares for Christmas Food Drive Students at Port Perry High School have issued a challenge to the community to support the Christmas Food Drive. The PPHS Food Drive this for the Operation Scugog Food Bank is being co-ordinated by six students in the entrepreneurial studies class of teacher Dave Robinson. The students are Jeremy Norton, Brent Harper, Kelly Open House at Pinewood Centre treatment facility In recognition of Durham Addiction Awareness Week, November 13-19, Pinewood Centre of Oshawa General Hospital will be hosting an Open House on Friday, November 18 from 12 - 1 p.m. at Pinewood's Oshawa location, 300 Centre, Street South. - Members of the community are invited to drop in a Pinewood's staff and learn more about the programs and services offered. Pinewood Centre has been a major provider of addiction services in Durham Region for over 25 years. In addition to the Oshawa office, Pinewood recently expanded its services with three new locations in Durham - Ajax, Bowmanville and Port" Perry Outpatient services offered at locations include early prevention groups; - individual assessments and referrals; and - group therapy for both substance abusers and family members who may be affected by the substance use. In addition to these services, Pinewood's Ajax location offers a prevention and early and meet these intervention and intervention service for children ages 3 to 12 whose parent(s) may have or have had a substance abuse problem. At the Oshawa location, the demand for crisis support continues to increase. This service is offered on site, seven days a week during the day and evening. A 24-hour telephone support line may be accessed by calling 723-8195 Pinewood Centre also provides non-medical detoxification services. Although this program is currently for males only and consists of four beds, this service will be expanded in the. near future to 20 beds, serving both males and females For clients seeking support to become alcohol and drug free there is a three week day program with a week day residential option for males and females.
