ia Noi TE Panthers reach consolation in tourney On Sat. Nov. 12th, the Port Perry Panthers, sponsored by Lakeside Golf and Hockey, held their annual home tournament at the Scugog Arena. The Panthers started the day with a 7 a,magame against the Stouffville 'clippers'. The first period was gll Panthers as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The first goal was scored by Matt _ Hobbs, assisted by Kevin Hobbs (no relation), at 6:43, and within 16 seconds Jay King popped home the second assisted by Daryl Bourgeois. The next game was against local rivals Uxbridge. This was a must win situation for the Panthers, as the loser goes home. As in the first game, Port i opened the game with continued pressure in the Uxbridge end. This total effort paid off with a 2- 0 lead at the end of the first period. Daryl Bourgeois' solid effort produced the first goal assisted by Jeff Clarke and Greg Thompson. Later in the period, Jeremy Geer finished off a nice passing 'play from Kenton Lefort and Jeff Clarke. The Panthers sustained the pressure in the second and added three more goals to Uxbridge's one to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the + third. Leading the way for Port was lan Shrigley with two and Greg Thompson with one. Picking up assists in the second were Robert Gracie, Chris Drury, Craig Laird, Kenton«Lefort, Greg Thompson and Kevin Hobbs. The boys played a smart third period and finished the game with a Chris Drury blast from the blue line, assisted by Craig Laird, to win 6-1. John Babcock was solid in net, making some nice saves when called upon to do so. In the consolation final the Panthers were up against Trenton. Although the boys played well, they were unable to breakdown the Trenton defence 1 and capitalized orf' their chances. Trenton played a solid two way game and came out on top 3-0. Scott Pretchitko was between the pipes for this one and deséryed a better fate considering the goaltending display. The Panthers would like to thank the Mojacks for the use of their dressing room, it was very much appreciated by the players. Also thanks to Robert Gracie, up from the Midget 'B' team; for *illing in on defence for the day. A big welcome to Greg Thompson, recently added to the Panthers squad from the Midget strong 'B' team. The opposition will "have to keep their heads up, now 2 that Greg's on the team. Last, but not least, the Panthers players would like to thank all the people who organized and ran - the tournament. The next evening, Nov. 13th, the Compton Cable gang were 6n the road to face Bradford. An exciting match ensued with Bradford pulling away with a 2 0 lead. Compton Cable bounced back with goals from Ashley Lucas, assists Kyle Mullins and Shane Jeffrey, and from Keenan Geer, assists Cassidy Weber and Derek Goreski. Despite tight checking by Danny Halward, Matthew Roth, 'and Shane Jeffrey, Bradford managed to score two more unanswered goals. Honourable mention goes out to Jeff Tomcheski's persistent checking and hard work in the corners. PORT PERRY
